I know we've joked around that people should be sterilized, but I never thought someone would actually do it.

I am actually writing a large research paper about infertility right now for a Disability History class and have a section devoted to forced sterilization and the sterilizaton of minorities. The NC sterilization program features prominently. There are some dark pieces of history in the US. I am glad to see this getting some press.
Book club girls - Henrietta ties into this as she was a victim of a program similar to this but hers was more expirimental "treatment" based than sterilization based.
