Eco-Friendly, Microwave/Dishwasher safe plates ??
What do you use for dinnerware that you are comfortable microwaving
and putting on the bottom rack in the dishwasher ? I have not
purchased dishes in years, ok actually never! Mine are all hand me
downs and we need to buy more. I would like to buy a modern
looking set, but am not certain where to look, what materials to
avoid,etc... Would you just buy some from pottery Barn, Macy's,etc
that say dishwasher/microwave safe ?
Thanks !!

I would stay away from anything plastic. Stoneware or ceramic are your best bet for dishwasher/microwave safe. Our ceramic plates are the Nova brand from Bed Bath and Beyond. They've held up great, and are inexpensive.

stoneware get hella hot in the microwave and the food stays cold.
I have these porcelain ones

they are similar to the stoneware ones I wanted that I knew wouldn't work for my microwaving lifestyle.

We have this set from C&B and I love them. They look really nice for casual use, and I've never had an issue with microwaving or anything.

We have the Pottery Barn Emma dishes, and while they often get warm, and sometimes hot, we don't have too much trouble with them. We can usually still handle them straight out of the microwave.

We use Fiestaware, which works well for us. But it does get hot, and it is heavy. It doesn't break or chip easily and when it breaks, it doesn't shatter and that's a bonus

I use Corelle - the plain white ones, Winter Frost White. They make square ones and patterns though if that's what you want. I bought a set and then bought lunch plates at an outlet. They are oven safe as someone mentioned, though I've never put them in the oven.
I used to have gorgeous stoneware plates from BBB. Within 2 years they had all sorts of chips and the finish started crazing, which made me nervous to eat off them. I've had the Corelle 6 years and broken 1 piece and the rest looks good as new.
They aren't fancy, but they are basic enough that I even use some pieces to supplement my china at holidays.
