Hi! Update on me... (ETA: pics added!)

How are all you ladies?! I miss getting to chat with you, but I have seriously done zero crafting other than rushing to refinish all of my furniture projects before winter/we get into the new house. And my shop has terrible light, so I haven't been able to take pictures.

Anyway, things are good here, just busy as heck. It looks like we'll be closing in two weeks, then it will be another two weeks of painting and all that before we can move in (there's some drywall work that needs done, plus every wall in the house is getting painted).

I really want to start crafting for Christmas, but I can't when it's all boxed up and about to be moved, darn it! Keep crafting and posting pics so I can live through you girls!

  • Congrats! I spent all.day.Saturday painting. But it was SO worth it.

  • I hate painting with a passion, but I cannot wait to own our own home so that we can paint! :) I won't enjoy the process, but I like the end result.

    And... holy cow! 18 weeks!!

  • Good luck!  Hope you're back to crafting soon- we're moving this weekend, so I know how packing and prep gets prioritized over crafting.

  • Thanks for the update! Can we make a deal? You post before and after pictures of the house (so I can live vicariously through your home ownership) and I'll post craft pics.

Oh golly, you do not want to see before and after pics. The house is old and the owners had LOTS of BIG furniture and the house in general needs a lot of updating. We got it for such a deal that we can afford to do a lot of the updating now, but things like flooring, a possible kitchen reno, and an eventual addition have to wait. Ok, wait, here's the before pics of my sewing room...

The wall in the top picture is where my sewing desk will go, with a peg board behind it and a shelf about 18 inches from the ceiling (like the ones that have been floating around Pinterest) to hide the not-so-straight ceiling (which is odd, because it's the only room in the house that isn't perfectly level/flush/plumb...and it was built in 1900!) and gain a little storage. The wall to the right in the top pic will be a design wall, the wall to the left will have my Make Life quilt hung above a great set of shelves I just got from my parents' ("stolen" of course). DH is getting a small desk and filing cabinet (hopefully I will find one that I could possibly do a mod podge treatment to) for the wall under the window in the second picture. He is building a "cabinet" over the panel box (he's an electrician, so he's knows what's legal) and in the opposite corner and hiding that using some shutters I have in the garage. The chair rail and trim are all getting painted white (in the whole house too :S), a color called doeskin (I think it's Olympic) on the bottom and something a little lighter on top.

    Anyway, scary, right?

Oh, wow- you're surely bargaining for them to leave all that awesome... stuff... right? LOL! If they take it all with them, you'll have made a really really big improvement already. ;)

    Congrats again!

  • Wowza. I hate to think what it looked like before they got ready to sell. Those pics would make an awesome "I spy" game.

  • Have fun with the new house.  We moved in 2 months ago and are still getting settled and trying to figure out what to do with rooms/spaces!

  • I'm going to bet that you're buying from an older couple? That is a LOT of stuff they have in that little room! (reminds me of my grandparents' house)  I can't wait to see how you transform it into your sewing room. :)
