Food related: In your country...

...do you have to pick moose hair out of your food?  Or is it just Norway?

Gag me.

  • What were you eating?

  • No. But when something is listed as "meat" that means it is not chicken or seafood. What kind of meat is open to educated guessing. The lamb chops and pieces of mutton are pretty easy to figure out. But after that it's kinda an eyes closed assumption the ground meat is beef. I just go with it since the food tastes good.

  • Moose soup (regular soup with added moose meat).  So it's not a huge surprise.

My ILs have a freezer full of moose.  I swear there's a whole damn moose in there.

Note: I don't much care for moose meat.

  • Ha ha!

Never meat hair, but sometimes there are still a few bits of feathers on poultry.

I love moose, my favourite way to have it in in fondue bourguignon.

This is why I stay away from meat here in Doha! Too many unknown sources!!

    Is this just regular fondue?

That's not a half bad idea.......

From Wiki: Fondue Bourguignonne consists of a fondue pot filled with hot oil into which diners dip pieces of meat to cook them. Various sauces are provided on the side. The dish is first attested in the mid-1950s.

    It is amazing!

  • What is the texture of moose meat? Is it like steak?
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • Yes.  If it weren't for the smell sometimes you can barely tell it's different from beef.

  • When I first read this post I thought it said "mouse" hair, ew.  I have only had moose meat a couple of times...but I loved it!  I am not a huge beef eater, but found the moose to be much more tender.  Or maybe it was just a good cut and a lot of wine ;)  Either way, hair would always be a deal-breaker!
