Help...foundation failure?

After all the rain, and the earthquakes, we now have water in the hallway and living room. It is in the middle of the house, not on the exterior walls and the water is red, so obviously there is soil in it.

What does this indicate? Foundation cracks in the middle of the house? We have no visible cracking in the house and it's too dark to see outside.

What do we do? We're currently using our crappy steam cleaner (good one's in the shop) and the Little Green to suck up as much water as possible. We've been through a flood before around the exterior, and fixed the French drains, but this has me stumped and I'm very concerned the fix is going to be insanely expensive.

I'm trying very hard to keep it together but I want to throw up right now so bad.

Re: Help...foundation failure?

  •  I don't have any helpful advice, but I wanted to say I'm really sorry you're going through this and hope it turns out to be an easy (and cheap!) fix.
  • That sucks. =(

I have a foundation company to recommend who will be able to tell you if the foundation is the problem.  They were recommended by our realtor when we found some issues with our last house as someone whose work is highly regarded.  They are very upfront with you and will not try to sell you work that isn't really necessary.  I will send you a FB msg with their info.

  • Because it is in the middle of your house, it makes me think that a pipe burst, not that there is anything wrong with your foundation. It is possible the earthquakes, although *small* by CA standards, may have shifted your house a bit and ran into a pipe or maybe the pipe has had issues all along.

Pls keep us posted and yuck - I am so sorry!

  • H is at home with the tankless people getting that estimate, and that company also happens to work with foundation and plumbing. An assistant principal also suggested that it may be a pipe somewhere. The seeping has slowed, if not completely stopped. It's hard to tell once carpet is wet. It didn't refill the laundry room all night so I'm hoping that's a good sign.

I got about 2.5 consecutive hours of sleep, probably 3 total, and since I have no hot water, I got up at 5am to go to the gym and use their showering facilities after working out. I can't believe I actually managed that. I'm on the verge of panic attacks, though, due to the too-little sleep, work drama, and all of this. Happy 31. I want 30 back!
