Decorating........

So I went to my parents' house last night and when I left, their neighbor had all of their outside Christmas decorations up and on. Does anyone decorate before Thanksgiving? I shop on Black Friday and then I spend the weekend after Thanksgiving decorating for Christmas.

Re: Decorating........

  • I also wait until the day after Thanksgiving to decorate but my sister is one of those annoying people who decorate (AND turn on lights) well before.  I completely understand putting up the lights and hard to reach things before it gets too cold but I do not understand turning them on....  I guess if you're paying for the electric bill you can do whatever you want :-)
  • Since it's still warm here, and DH had time he went ahead and put up the roof decorations already...and our neighbors did the same :)  We havent turned them on yet though.
  • Nope.  The day after Thanksgiving is when Christmas decor goes up.  It comes down New Years day.

  • Yes!  If the weather is nice...we definately get all our outside decorating up!  We don't turn it on until the day after Thanksgiving, but we take advantage of good weather.

I do my inside decorating the week of Thanksgiving and we usually keep it up until Epiphany.

  • If MH would let me, my decorations would be up after Halloween Smile

    This.

  • Mine are up and lit.  I make it a tradition that every year my christmas decorations are up before my birthday (which is Nov. 14th) If I am going to spend hours upon hours decorating...Im going to enjoy it for 2 months.
  • We don't decorate until Black Friday.  We start by going and getting the tree in the morning after breakfast, when we come home and have the tree up is when all of the Christmas decorations come out.
  • Our tradition is to do all decorating the day after Thanksgiving and I love it, I so look forward to it.  We go buy our tree and then DH decorates it while I decorate the house and we drink boozy hot chocolate:-)  I'm one of those people who starts getting excited about Christmas in like August...but I feel like it makes it more special to lock it up to the time span between Thanksgiving and New Years.  I already bought some new decorations but they are sitting in the closet until Black Friday:-)
  • MH and I put up all the decorations the Sunday after thanksgiving. Only because we travel out of state for the holiday.

Of course that hasn't stopped me from sneaking out a few decorations here and there.

  • I usually don't decorate until after Thanksgiving but this year my family is coming for Thanksgiving so I'm going to decorate later this week. It's an unusual 70 degrees out today so it seems weird to be thinking about Christmas decorations but I love having them up and want my family to be able to see them since they live out of town and probably won't be back for Christmas.
  • I actually passed a house last night on my way home from work that has the whole front yard all decked-out in Christmas!  Icicle lights on the house (2 story!) and those big blow up things - about 3 or 4 of 'em including one of those blow up snow globe looking things.

I'm all for Christmas decorating - it's my favorite time of year, but I definitely wait until AFTER Thanksgiving.  In fact, my husband and I have a Christmas Decorating Party the Saturday after Thanksgiving every year.  It started out with just the family and has grown exponentially - we're anticipating about 30-40 people this year!!!

  • I usually try to wait until the weekend post Thanksgiving, but we have so many family events once Thanksgiving starts running up to Christmas that (given the extent of my Christmas decoration hoard) we at least went and cut our Christmas tree down before Thanksgiving and put it up. I'm hoping to have the lights strung on before I leave for Thanksgiving, though I might leave that for Black Friday when my husband's at work. I usually shop amazon and the midnight rush (so much fun), sleep as we drive back up Friday morning for his shift, and then either decorate or, more often than not, hunt down whatever gift they didn't have in my sister's size in our hometown and get it up here.

So yeah, while I find the pre Halloween decorations a little obnoxious, I've become a lot more forgiving of those who want to put up the lights and drag down the ornaments before Thanksgiving.
