How hard is it to crochet...?
I know how to do basic knitting and I'd like to learn how to crochet. Just the basics. Is this something I can teach myself?
Re: How hard is it to crochet...?
I was taught the very basic stitch and then taught myself everything else out of books.
I can not catch onto kitting for the life of me.
Crochet was much easier in my opinion!
I taught myself using YouTube as well... it was so nice to be able to pause or rewind and actually see it.
it took me a little to pick it up, for some reason it was not that easy for me but once I "got" it the rest was easy. I love it so much more than knitting
Crochet Geek is a great resource for learning how to crochet! She is on YouTube and also has her own blog. I learned how to knit & crochet by my aunt and taught myself more advanced stitches from YouTube. Crocheting is easier, in my opnion, than knitting.
You will get addicted once you learn! Warn all your family & friends that they will probably get something crocheted for Christmas/birthdays.
It was helpful for me to have someone physically teach me the basics like slip knot, chain, and single crochet. One I had those down learning other stitches was a piece of cake. My SIL taught me and we're both lefties so that helped. There are a few but not a ton of videos on youtube for lefty crocheters.
When you're starting out stick with very basic yarn. I was attracted to the fuzzy more decorative yarns but I imagine those would be hard to work with for a beginner!
I love ravelry.com for patterns. Learning the pattern language takes some time but once you understand it it's a breeze!
Good luck! It's addicting!!
