Salary Question- Help please!
What's the best way to go about estimating what a salary expectation should be? I just received an email from HR of a company that I REALLY wanted to hear back from. She must have maybe gotten my resume an hour ago and emailed me 30 min ago. This was kind of the hail mary pass of resume submissions and I'm really excited that I even heard back from her.
Do I just google similar job titles and go from there? I'll obviously use a $10k range, but I don't want to low ball myself or shoot myself in the foot by going too high. Either way, this position would likely be a really nice salary increase.

Re: Salary Question- Help please!
Ugh. I HATE salary negotiations. I never know what to say, so I'm pretty much useless.
Congrats on getting a call back so early! That's fantastic! Also, I've seen a few PR/Ad type jobs pop up on twitter in the last few days. Want me to email them to you?
Also look at websites like payscale.com, salary.com and salaryexpert.com.
If you can avoid it, let them propose a salary first before you do.
Good luck!! Crossing my fingers for you, but know that I'm slacking on helping you out a bit more. I'll remedy that tonight.
YGPM.
Thanks! No worries on the slacking.
I'm sure you're busy and I appreciate the help you've given me so far. I actually tweaked it a bit more (mainly the boring and uninformative profile part) so I'll send you the resume that this company actually received.
What's funny is that I applied to this position about a month ago and even though I didn't get a confirmation, I assume they received it. There didn't seem to be a problem when I submitted it. Anyway, I still used that as an excuse. I printed my resume and cover letter and prefaced the cover letter by saying that I apologized if it was a duplicate submission but I never received a confirmation email and due to my high level of interest in the position, I wanted to ensure that it was placed into the correct hands. I threw it in a large manilla envelope and mailed it their HR department. I guess it worked!
You're welcome! I'll let you know if I see anything else.
