When/where would you advertise an estate sale?

My ILs (well, we) are going to be having an estate sale this weekend to try to clear out their house.

I plan to put an ad on craigslist, but should I consider anywhere else? And when? The sale will be Saturday and Sunday. Should I do a post on Friday and again on Saturday and again on Sunday?

I will also make posters to hang in the neighborhood pointing the way.

Anything else I should do?

Re: When/where would you advertise an estate sale?

  • I'd put an ad in the local newspaper - and maybe in a larger paper if the one in the immediate area is small.
  • Would it be possible to publish your Craigslist post a few days before the weekend too? I often check garage sales (and hence, I see posting about estate sales) during the week (towards mid-week) so I can plan my weekends early. Perhaps you could post on Wednesday or Thursday, then Friday and Saturday?

  • I would post it on estatesales dot net as well. We used to frequent them a few years ago and usually checked out that website to determine where we wanted to go.
  • If you want a ton of people I would do a classified ad in a newspaper.
My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.
