Lasik Recommendations

My hubs found out today that he is 100% a good candidate for Lasik. However Teplick quoted him $4500. Not sure what the "going rate" in the Portland Metro area is for this service but somehow it seems high. He went to Teplick because it was familiar, but I figured I could do a little reseach and get some recommendations for others who have had good experiences with other providers.

 Thoughts?

Thanks!!

Re: Lasik Recommendations

  • I had mine done at OHSU with the Casey Eye Institute. Dr. William Mathers did the procedure. I had it done in 2005 and it was $4000 then but I got $1000 off for working for OHSU. Not sure what the rate is now. But I can highly recommend him. the before- and after-care was great and 6 years later I'm still free of glasses / contacts.

  • So maybe I am thinking that I am being a cheap-o now after hearing your cost. The procedure is FSA eligible, so we're probably going to set aside some funds. Dr. Teplick indicated that my hubby would have better than 20/20 vision and could probably go the rest of his life without glasses. He hates wearing glasses and we spend a fortune on RX safety glasses for his work and frames, etc for nromal life every 2-3 years. We might as well lump sum the vision correction and let him enjoy being glasses free!

    Thanks so much!!

  • If you go with a reputable place I think you can expect to pay that. And it's your husband's eyes, you don't want to have someone mess that up! There is no price you can put on losing your eye sight. The website of Dr. Teplick looks very good so I guess he's a pretty reputable guy as well. He will not regret it. Not just the buying of the frames, but just the feeling of being able to wake up and see without having to put any glasses on.

  • We paid $3500 for DH's lasik at LasikPlus (after insurance discounts). I don't think $4000-4500 is outrageous- it's his eyesight. I wouldn't go somewhere just for a discount- god-forbid something happened that would suck.
