xp: there & back

Hi ladies!  We were just in your neighborhood a few days ago, and already we are back home down under.  It was a quick, jam packed trip, but wonderful all the same.  It was awesome being back in the bay, and introducing bubs to the family and celebrating Halloween in true American style.  He is a very well loved and spoiled little boy.  He came back with nearly 2 fifty pound suitcases full of stuff, not to mention Christmas presents on the side.

While we were there he decided to grow up even more: got his first 2 teeth as soon as we landed in CA, sits up by himself, is super chatty, can hold his own bottle and I am pretty sure he can sign "milk".  He did awesome on the plane, sleeping for 9-10 hours on the way there and back home.  Yay for bassinet seats, even though he is already at the maximum weight limit.

We all came home with colds, but are on the mend now.  I am still sad about leaving.  It was harder to get on the plane this time, just knowing that it will probably be 2-3 years till we go back to CA and DS will be such a big boy next time.  Fingers crossed for a lot of visitors in the years in between.  It's the first time that I miss being "home" since becoming an expat.  I am struggling emotionally being so far away from our families, but I am sure things will be better once I get rid of this cold and we are back into our normal routine again.

Hope you all had a wonderful Halloween and are looking forward to the holidays!

  • I'm so glad the trip was enjoyable! I remember reading that you were not excited about certain aspects of it beforehand, so I'm glad it was a success! I'm sorry about the homesickness. I definitely know the feeling. I'm sure it'll pass soon, but in the meantime you always have us to keep you a bit extra connected!
  • I noticed that as I get older, parting from family after a visit (every few years) is harder and harder for me.

I'm glad to hear you had a great trip. I hope your cold will be completely healed soon.

  • I'm glad you had a good visit! I'm sorry you're feeling homesick. I think that's really hard when you have a baby/child, too. I was born in France and my grandparents were out of their minds that my parents were abroad then. They only got to see photos of me. They blew them up to 8 X 10's and put them all around the house. And my parents were supposed to start working in Algeria for a couple of years starting when I was 3 mos old. That ended up not coming to fruition so my grandparents were thrilled when we came back to the U.S. then. Anyway, I hope you feel better and get to have lots of family visitors.
  • Glad you had such a great trip! I can't believe your little guy did so well on the plane too. That is awesome!

I'm sure after a few weeks you'll feel better about being back home. I'm sure it's hard to adjust to, but like you said, it'll get better once you get back in your routine.

  • I'm glad you had a nice visit. I, for one, would love to come see you in NZ :)
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • thanks for your kind words ladies.  It helps.  And you are all invited to come visit us in NZ.  I would love nothing more.  In fact, one of our mates from Germany is coming next month for his honeymoon.  I am so excited!
