Kindle users

Hello! I'm sorry I've been sort of MIA. I've said it once, but it still applies, this has been such a crazy school year for me. It's like my first year teaching...again! I could use your help with ereaders, in particular the kindle.

I think we're going to bite the bullet and get a kindle. I know I don't want the new fire because I only want it as an ereader and I know I want the eink. However, my question is, and this is where you all come into play, do I get the kindle with a key pad or without? What does one do with the key pad?

I'm so nervous about switching over to the ereader, any advice you all want to share with me would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Re: Kindle users

  • Oops. Sorry for the long paragraph. I'm on my phone and forgot the little

    things. Please don't hate me!

  • They didnt have the non keypad Kindles when I got mine (only on the nooks), so I have nothing to compare it to, but I would say its like a preference similar to a phone.  I hate all touch screen phones that dont have a keypad, so for me I would probably stick with the keypad (even though I dont use it all that often on the kindle).  I really think it will be a preference thing.
  • Yeah, I didn't even know they had Kindles without the keypad now. I use it when I'm searching for a book to download, you can also use it to "make notes" in the book or hover over a word to get the definition. I also love the e-ink screen, I can't imagine reading a book on a shiny, back-lit screen for hours on end.
  • I didn't even know they made Kindles without the keypads.  Huh.  I think it would make it easier to do searches for new books with a key pad so that's what I would do.
  • I vote keypad, hands down.  I don't use mine much, but I when I do I prefer that the screen I'm reading from not get all 'fingerprinty'.

  • I agree on getting the keypad!
  • Alright, it sounds like a keypad is needed! Thanks ladies.

Oh, and I miiiiiiissss you guys! Have a great day!

  • I'm confused. Wouldn't the new touch ones have a keypad like the iPhone? And doesn't the keyboard one kinda suck because you only have arrow buttons & you have to toggle to the right letters? Or did I read something wrong? I want one for Christmas & am trying to figure out which one to get too.

Mine has a full keyboard.  No toggles.

This.  PS, you're going to love the Kindle.  I don't think I've heard of anyone ever saying, Man, I wish I'd gotten so-and-so other e-reader!

Which one do you have? There are so many different versions it's getting confusing.

My new favorite word for the day.

  • So, I've read reviews that don't like the nook and now the new Kindle Fire because they both are back lit which eventually puts strain on the eyes.

Would I be safe in telling Brad that I want the Kindle 3? By safe I mean, no back light (eink only), no crazy games, or apps BUT still have the ability to download books where ever.

I think you would be fine.

BTW, I totally wasted my money last night and got a mani/pedi.  I probably could have paid my water bill or something.

Haha I totally thought of that this morning when I got dog food cause there was a nail salon next door. "I need a mani... But it's $10... :( ". Lol
