Moving to Concord/Clayton area

Hi,

Does anyone live in or near Concord mear the border of Clayton?   If so, do you like it?

My husband and I are thinking of moving to that area....we have friends that live in Clayton and they love it.  We like the area and also the houses are cheaper there than they are on the San Francisco peninsula where we currently are.

Re: Moving to Concord/Clayton area

  • I lived out there with my grandparents for a while when I was in high school. It's very nice and quite in Clayton, my biggest issue was being so far from the freeway.

  • What's that going to do to your commute?  Are you OK with that?  I'd stay with friends or get a hotel for a few nights out there and try that commute out before I'd invest.
  • I'm familiar with Concord/Clayton. Clayton is far from the freeway so depending on whether you need to go to the BART station or 680, you should expect at least 30 minutes on Ygnacio Valley or Treat Blvd to Walnut Creek. I would imagine Clayton Valley Road is like that too in order to get to Concord. I'm not trying to scare you off but the drive to is a factor.

I don't know if you have kids or are planning to but if you are, are you looking for a neighborhood within a certain school district?  I have family and friends that live between Treat Blvd & Concord High and their neighborhoods are nice but not all of Concord is like this.

  • a thumbnail of the commute times i've did that from 1998 to 2009 from Concord/Clayton area

25 mins from Clayton to Concord BART

    1hr Clayton to WC BART

    1hr Clayton to 24/680 Interchange

90 mins Clayton to Oakland (downtown)

    30-45 mins to downtown WC

imo its the SOLE downside, Clayton is its own wonderful pocket FAR FAR FAR away from the freeway - expect 25-30 to get to ANY freeway at a minimum.
