Freaking Out - MRSA

I woke up Monday morning with what I thought was a spider bite on my stomach. No big deal but I was a little concerned because Molly sleeps with us at least a little each night. As the week went by the "bite" got worse and DH kept nagging me to go to the doc. So on my way home from work I ran by urgent care just to shut him up. Turns out I have flipping MRSA! And according to the doc my school is crawling with the stuff. Great. I'm not really worried about me. I got prescriptions and instructions and all that jazz, but I'm worried about Molly!

Re: Freaking Out - MRSA

  • I had it before started on my stomach, I thought it was a mosquito bite because it was in the summer, and then it got worse. Went to the doctors and I got all kinds of meds to use. It worked and it went away pretty fast. I was worried about DH getting it but luckily he didnt catch it. Best of luck! I know how you feel. =/
  • I'm sorry to hear that :(.  I hope you get better soon.

If it makes you feel any better, DH has had it several times and we slept/showered together each time before we realized he was having another outbreak and I've never gotten it.  (Even when I did have cuts/scrapes.)  Make sure she doesn't have any broken/dry skin- cover it well if she does.  And put DH on diaper duty.   :)

And we always did a double-wash of bed linens on the hot cycle and cleaned all the hard surfaces with a bleach solution.

  • Yikes! Poor thing. Hope you get well soon & no one else catches it!
  • I hope you get better quickly and it stays away from Molly.

My cousin's 3 year old daughter has had MRSA three or four times. The have horrible luck with medical issues though

No. I don't even think the school is aware of the problem. I will make sure they are very aware tomorrow!

  • Unfortunately MRSA is everywhere.  Fortunately we still have some antibiotics to help it get better.  Hope you're feeling better!  If Molly develops a boil or warm red skin, I'd take her in to the doc's.
