Ok ladies let's get it started!
My UO: I am very "meh" about craft rooms. The pictures I have seen on pinterest look great but it seems unpractical to me. It's probably because I am not a huge crafter. Most of the time the crafts I do just take up the dining table or the living room floor. I can see how it would be useful it you ran a business that required that you needed a whole room.
Re: UO Thursday!
This could be totally flame-worthy...
I don't think Paterno should have been fired. I would have rather he "resigned" rather than just flat out been fired. Yes, he should have been more proactive about the issue, and I thought him resigning at the end of the season was probably a good idea. But the fact that he's such a legacy with (until now) a sterling reputation, and he came from a time when things like that just weren't discussed, so perhaps he handled it the best way he knew... yeah. I feel super bad for him.
That was a lot of very poor grammar. Go me.

I'm on the fence about it. I feel like Penn State handled the situation the wrong way - they were being reactive and just flat-out fired him, which he didn't deserve. He'd already announced his retirement...they should've left it at that.
There's so much more to this story that will continue to come out...it will be interesting to see how the next few weeks pan out. I definitely wasn't expecting him to be fired last night.
I do think, however, that the kids who rioted last night are just dumb and irresponsible. I feel like a crotchety old woman saying that, but oh well.
I totally understand what your saying. However I am a huge crafter so a craft room would be my favorite room in a home. When we build I do plan to have a craft room. It would make things alot easier for me when I have a project going to just leave my supplies and what I am working on out when I am not working on it. Right now I used my coffee table or dining room table and I am OCD so I have to put everything up when I am at a good stopping point. For someone who is not in to crafts or just does small things I don't see a craft room being very functional.
I have a feeling there is so much more to this story than we know. On one hand, I feel like if they don't fire anyone else (see my response to Ami's post above), then it appears that Paterno is a scapegoat. On the other, he knew and did nothing. I just really feel for all those kids and so many people knew about it and DID NOTHING. I just don't get that. I don't get how you can do nothing. Granted, he did fire Saninsky or whatever his name is but he allowed the guy to continue to lurk around the University like some sort of saint.
Also, this guy was never offered another job anywhere and was an amazing coach. So...how man people OUTSIDE Penn knew about this?
My concern for the victimized kids far exceeds those of a coach with a sterling reputation.
Rick Perry is an idiot. The way the sexual harassment allegations have been handled concerning Cain is horrendous. Victims should never become punching bags.
Yes to the bolded! I really don't understand how he keeps getting re-elected for TX governor. I'm really sad that my home state has some of the dumbest polictians that come out of it.
In the state of Oklahoma, at least, failing to report allegations of child abuse to the proper authorities (i.e., the police or DHS, NOT just your boss) may actually lead to you being charged with a crime (a misdemeanor in OK.) I'm all right with people being fired for criminal behaviors which reflect poorly on their jobs.
Though, to be fair, since almost all of us live in employment at will states, they could technically fire him for just about anything.
Um, I don't know. When you have persons that have filed complaint after complaint after complaint with multiple employers you do have to wonder if it isn't the EMPLOYEE that is the issue and not the EMPLOYER.
ITA.
Granted, there is more to this story than we know, anyone who witnesses or knows about molestation/rape is absolutely responsible if they don't do everything in their power to make sure it's not allowed to happen again. Paterno may be a great strategist, but he kind of sucks as a person, and I wouldn't want him coaching any kid of mine.
What this whole story says to me is that these men valued their reputations, their university's reputation, and the reputation of their precious football team more than the lives of the victims. Let's face it, many of these kids' lives are probably ruined from this whole thing. It's all ironic, because had these men aired all of this out and handled it as soon as they knew, I think most of us would have nothing but respect for them and their institution.
My UO: The whole PSU thing angers me to no end. But, I kind of feel like people are losing sight of who is actually the predator, here. Sandusky. I get it that by not following up and asking questions and, in general, by not doing more that JoePa is the blunt of the anger and one of the many enablers. But, he's not the one who anal raped and molested these boys - Jerry Sandusky is the guy to go at with pitch forks.
That being said, JoePa ruined his reputation years ago when he decided to put his and his schools reputation before the well being of those kids. (Did someone else here already say that?)
((Also, have y'all seen what may be coming down the 'pike with this whole situation?!))
You are referring to one. I am referring to multiple. There were payouts, press conferences that failed to answer questions... it was definitely the EMPLOYER.
So... I feel the need to amend my UO from yesterday.
After giving it some serious thought and reading more about the issue... I have changed my mind. Paterno did deserve to get fired, and I'm glad he did. But I still think he was a scapegoat.
My problem? They're picking and choosing. Every single person who knew about this but didn't alert the authorities needed to get fired too, and I'm irate that it hasn't happened. Every single one, and I promise there are a lot more.

100% agree to the last paragraph. I'd like to see some criminal liability for all involved as well. Losing their jobs should be the least of their concerns.
