Re: Holidays poll

  • What are you doing for the holidays? For Thanksgiving, we go home to Chicago to spend with my Mom.  Christmas, we spend here with H's family

Favorite tradition? Growing up my favorite was opening one of our gifts from our parents on Christmas eve, it was usually new holiday pj's that we would get to sleep in that night.

Favorite Christmas movie? The Grinch, The year without a santa claus, and of course, it's a wonderful life

Favorite Christmas song/band? Any Christmas song performed by Elvis

What is on your Christmas list? Nothing, don't want anything

How far do you travel to see family? For Thanksgiving, it is about 3-31/2 hours, For Christmas it is about 15 minutes

Do you have a separate tradition for friends? Nope

When do you begin shopping? Normally I am done by Thanksgiving

Who's the hardest person to buy for? Hmm, probably my MIL

  • What are you doing for the holidays?Thanksgiving with Zach's family in IL, Christmas with mine here. Next year we'll switch.

Favorite tradition? Christmas Eve service at church. No matter what BS goes on in the family, Christmas Eve is always spent at the candle lit service, where the only lights on are over the pulpit as the pastor tells a story of Christmas, and the final song it Silent Night, and everyone in the congregation lights and holds up a candle. It's a sight to behold.

Favorite Christmas movie? Miracle on 34th Street (the old one), It's a Wonderful Life, and the Peanut's Christmas - especially Linus's monologue near the end.

Favorite Christmas song/band? Anything by Bing Crosby or any of the oldies guys. Mary, Did You Know?, O Holy Night, Carol of the Bells, and Santa Baby are my absolute favorites.

What is on your Christmas list? Books of the non-educational variety, a few DVD's, Wii games, and for Zach to get his diploma and a job.

How far do you travel to see family? 5 hours to see the in-laws, 15 ish minutes to see my side, depending on traffic and snow.

Do you have a separate tradition for friends? My childhood best friend and I used to exchange presents after the Christmas Eve service, but she changed churches, so we have to figure out something else now.

When do you begin shopping? Between June and July. I'm always done by the time November hits, but school slowed me up this year, so I've gotta finish up the gift cards.

Who's the hardest person to buy for? My mother-in-law. She's not very easy to buy for, and never gives me ideas.

  • What are you doing for the holidays?

Nothing for Thanksgiving or Christmas.  It's too much hassle with my allergies and not worth it since DH works them.  Plus, I hate hearing about DH working.  I don't mind it since he's one of the best at what he does.  I'd rather he spend the night at the hospital saving lives over avoiding meat filled foods and since he's pretty much a vegetarian who hates junk food.  Pie is as junky as it gets for him.

If we are able, we'll spend NYE at Sambuca Nashville to celebrate with our friend's band and maybe bring them a belated Christmas surprise, but it has to involve bacon.  New Year's Day we'll be cheering on the Preds as close to the ice as possible and hanging out after at The Stage and Margaritaville.  The next day we'll spend at Tootsie's with out other friend's band.

    Favorite tradition?

The only one we have is that I make sure DH has a 6 pack of cold Guiness and a pumpkin pie waiting after his Thanksgiving shift.  I also spend the night shopping all night at the outlets.

    Favorite Christmas movie?

    Four Christmases

    Favorite Christmas song/band?

The Pogues "Fairytale of New York" or Chris Cornell's Ave Maria

What is on your Christmas list?

A black leather cross body bag, Lululemon Still Pants, Lulu Wunder Unders, and a Gold customized Preds jersey.

How far do you travel to see family?

I try to avoid it at all costs.  I'm thinking of spending Thanksgiving in Nashville going to a concert the night before, but I have one in  Indy on Tuesday and it may be a little much.  If I do travel home it's close to 5 hours.

Do you have a separate tradition for friends?

If my arm gets twisted enough to spend Thanksgiving at my parent's, my kindergarten Bff's and I do lunch to catch up.  It lasts about 3 hours and we tip very well.

    When do you begin shopping?

Thanksgiving.  We only buy for my parent's, each other, and 2 aunts.

Who's the hardest person to buy for?

DH.  He has everything and if he wants anything, he buys it for himself.
