Chili cook off ideas

I am hosting a chili cook off this Sunday.  This my first one, I can't wait!

I figured I would keep the food light, since everyone will be sampling the chili the whole time.  I am going to have a veggie tray with sour cream and onion dip, beer bread and artichoke dip from tastefully simple, chips and pretzels, and someone is bringing buffalo chicken dip.  I will also have some tortilla chips out for eating with the chili along with little bowls of cheese, sour cream, and scallions.  Is that enough food?  The party is from 1-4 in the afternoon.  I am expecting about 34 people, and 14 of those people have committed to bringing chili.  I will have beer, wine, soda, and water also.

Is there anything else I should add to the menu?  Any advice for a first time chili cook off host?

TIA!

Re: Chili cook off ideas

  • I'd probably have some cornbread and saltines/oyster crackers for the chili.  Otherwise I think you have enough.
  • The menu sounds good to me!  For my DH, cornbread must accompany his chili.  Just a thought.  Love the idea though.  Sounds like a lot of fun.  Enjoy.
