Seeking a Career in Arizona!

Hi! My husband and I married a year ago which is why I moved to Arizona:)! After situating our lives here for the first several months, I am now ready to get back and contribute to the workforce! I absolutely LOVE LOVE working but I since my search for a career began the last couple of months I have been unsuccessful in finding my perfect match!! I have my Marketing Degree and worked at a big chain health club in CA as a Marketing Coordinator for 2 years before moving here. I also have my Real Estate License and have worked in fashion/retail- you can say I am pretty well rounded. I would love a career in the fashion industry as a buyer, stylist, etc.! OR would love to contribute my marketing skills to an amazing company!! If you or anyone you know is hiring I would love to meet with them and really show what I can bring to the table. I am VERY outgoing and a complete people person, very fast learner and can multitask like it's no one's business!!

Would love to hear any feedback/ help! Many thanks my fellow Arizonian Nesties!!

Re: Seeking a Career in Arizona!

  • Hi!  I actually do not live in Arizona anymore, but consider this my home board :-)  I do not know of anyone hiring, so I can not help there, but I thought I could chime in here because I am a corporate recruiter for an online retailer and I hire many, many buyers/merchandising assistants as well as marketing positions.  If buying is the area you want to get into you really need to start at the bottom and get back into retail.  Work in a department store, get a few years of current and relative experience under you belt, then go for a merchandising assistant position.  From an MA role you can move up into an assistant buyer and then buyer.  Same advice for being a stylist, you are going to have to get current retail experience.  So if that is a big interest/passion for you that is what you should do.  It is an amazing industry and if you work hard and put in your time you can be very successful and happy.

Also, and please do not take this the wrong way or as snarky, because it is not meant to be at all, but when a recruiter looks at your resume and sees many different industries it does not look well rounded, it looks like you jump around.  So when writing your resume I would make your transition look like there was reason behind it.  Marketing and retail you can be totally related and would not throw up a red flag for me, especially if you spent a while in each role and if the position you are applying for it in one of those areas.  But with real estate, if you have your real estate license but did not really actively sell real estate I would probably just leave that off of my resume. Different story if it was your full time profession though.

Let me know if you have any questions, I'm totally willing to help in any way!  I think there is another corporate recruiter on this board, so she can probably chime in with some advice too!  And the ladies who actually live in Arizona can probably give you better leads on jobs!  Good luck!

  • Have you checked for openings with US Airways?  I know a few people in the Marketing and Dividend Miles (Frequent Flier Program) departments and they seem pretty happy with their jobs.  I know US frequently hires young people with a lot of energy and limited experience.  They generally pay below the industry average, but take advantage of the creativity coming from people near the beginning of their careers.  There tend to be a lot of openings because people use US as a springboard (while enjoying the travel perks) and move on to higher paying gigs in a few years.

I have a friend who worked for them and it was an awesome spring board for her career!!!
