Vagina issue

Hopefully this isn't TMI...

So I am on the last day of my period and I felt super uncomfortable/itchy/irritated downstairs.  It doesn't quite feel like a yeast infection.  We didn't have sex last night, we did the night before that but it was nothing out of the ordinary.  If anything it was actually half of the time that we usually have sex.  I am wondering what is going on... I don't have discharge, just the last remains of my period... and I did not use a tampon at all today, and I only had a light one in for a few hours yesterday.

I may not be able to get to my doctor until Monday unfortunately.  I did buy some vagisil cream and that helped soothe me for a period of time.

Help!  This is super uncomfortable. Sad

Re: Vagina issue

  • Are you using perfumed pantiliners?  Those tend to irritate me pretty badly.  Also, if you recently switched detergents or body washes, those could be the culprit.  Double check the pantiliners though if you are, that turned out to be the culprit in my situation.

I have had the same issue towards the end of my period and when I mentioned it at my annual my doctor mentioned that it could be the pads I was using. I've been using the same ones for awhile though, but I guess it's possible that the company changed something?? She also told me that Kotex makes an organic pad that is free of pesticides. Yes, that is what she said- pesticides!!! Surprise

I also recently had an issue where I thought I had a yeast infection (not related to my period) so she took some samples during my pap. She said it could have been contact dermititis or something like that. It basically is a reaction to a change in laundry detergent, soap, underwear... We actually had recently changed our soap, unknowingly grabbed the wrong kind of Irish Spring. She gave me a pill and some cream and I've been fine since. And still using that soap, so I have no idea what could have caused it.

  • I actually do not use pantiliners at all. I went to the doctor today.  She said it looked irritated, but I had no pain when she touched my uterus so that was good.  She is sending a culture to the lab to test for yeast and a few other things.  I should know by Monday or Tuesday the latest.

Since my period is now completely gone, I am thinking yeast may be the culprit.  I just take a big mirror and look down there if I think something is up, and I thought maybe it looked like there could be some yeast.  She told me to just go buy the monistat over the coutner 3 day thing, but I may want to wait until it is definite that that is what I have.  I also would want to get on oral medication if that was the case.  In the meantime I will definitely not be having sex and I will just have to be uncomfortable for a bit longer!

  • The tests determined that it was bacterial vaginosis.  I will be getting on meds tomorrow.  I can't drink on them and I am assuming no sex for a while.  Boo!
