stenciling on fabric

Has anyone stenciled curtain panels? I bought this comforter at Target . If you zoom in you can see the light geometric design. I thought it would be great if I could just buy some pre-made cotton off-white panels and stencil the shape from the comforter in grey, on the panels.

So, easy? Hard? More time consuming than you would think? Is painting in grey going to be tricky (ie, tricky to find the right color)? Where do I find stencil paper/plastic sheets? And where do I find fabric paint?

Any thoughts are welcome!

Re: stenciling on fabric

  • That would be totally doable, but I'm sure it would be a PITA to do. Stenciling a wall is one thing, but since fabric is pliable, I would think it would be hard to get it to line up perfectly.

With that being said, you can look at craft stores or even home improvement stores for a stencil. You may also be able to find one or have one made on Etsy. For paint, you can get acrylic paint in the shade you want and purchase textile medium, which will turn it into fabric paint.

  • You could screen print them- I do screen printing and it's pretty easy, but, doing such a large item with smaller home use screens would be very time consuming and tough to line up unless you were very careful.
  • You can use Freezer Paper and cut out your own stencils, iron them onto the curtains, then use fabric paint to fill them in, then you just have to pull off the freezer paper when it's dry.
