Favorite TV Series Finale?

We finished Rescue Me this weekend and it got me thinking about other finales. This one was fitting and very good, but it didn't have a lot of oomph.

I think my favorite series ending was Six Feet Under. It was intense and gut wrenching and perfect.

What finales did you love?

Re: Favorite TV Series Finale?

  • The West Wing is the one that sticks most in my mind.

    that is a good one.

    and 6 ft under.

and i actually really liked gilmore girls. i am the 1% there, though, i'm sure ;-)

  • I enjoyed Sports Night, too.

And does Serenity count? I feel like it should.

I'll join you there! I loved the finale for the Cosby Show with Cliff and Clare dancing off the set. I wouldn't say I loved the finale for RTA, but I liked aspects of it a lot. This was not actually the series finale but the finale for the penultimate season of Keeping up Appearances: the episode where they are aboard the QE2.
  • I'll probably get flack for saying this, but I was a die hard LOST fan and no matter how weird the show got I loved it until the end. The finale had me wrecked for weeks.

It does (though I still can't believe they killed Wash!)

Anyway, I'd put LOST on there too.

My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.

I almost posted that the Gilmore Girls finale was one I really hated  :)  You are definitely in the minority there, from what I've heard from other GG fans. I thought that finale was so abrupt.

Most people didn't like it because of the relationship that ended and/or the one that didn't end in a wedding. I was glad of both.
  • I don't remember much about the finale of Cheers, but I loved what they did after the show.  They were Live at the real bar in Boston(I think it has a different name than Cheers.)  Anyhow, the entire cast was sh!tfaced and they were having such a great time.  I will never forget that after show.  To see people that truly still love eachother after working together for years.

Ditto. Lost forever. I don't care what anyone says. :)

It was abrupt. From what I understand, no one knew it would be the finale until it was filming - or maybe even after it had filmed. So when you take that into account - it left them all set up to have new adventures and second chances - sookie was pregnant, Richard and Emily and Lorelei had actually been nice to each other in a way that showed they respected each other, Rory was setting off to be an actual adult, and the Luke and Lorelei would try again.

When it aired I had so many conversations with people who wanted there to be a giant, shotgun, L&L wedding or they wanted Rory and Logan to get back together and get married...I would have hated THAT. Had they had another season and time to develop those story lines...sure, end it on a wedding, but given that they'd been cancelled - it was a silk purse out of a sow's ear moment.

  • I know it wasn't the best finale, but I liked Ross and Rachel finally getting together on Friends.

The MASH finale was good even though I was an infant when it originally aired. I think TV Land was showing it last night.

I have too many that I didn't care for, but maybe those are for another thread :)

  • i'll get a TON of flack for this one but .. the series finale of Sex and the City. Big chasing Carrie down to Paris, Charlotte and Harry and their baby girl, Samantha and her sex drive coming back and Mirianda putting aside her differences with her mil. in the end, everyone got what they wanted.

That one has grown on me. I saw SATC out of order so I didn't see Big's progression when I first saw the finale. I like it more now.
