Good Morning INs!

Hello ladies, how is everything today?

QOTD:  Do you collect anything?  What and how long have you been collecting it?

Re: Good Morning INs!

  • Morning!  No big plans here, probably just going to get out for a walk with Aurelia, H, and the dogs at some point if it doesn't rain.

Things have been good with me lately, but I haven't had a lot of time to post on here, so I'm trying to catch up this morning while I have a bit of time and H isn't using the computer.

QOTD:  I don't collect anything, but H collects different types of beer bottles and has been doing that for a few years.

  • Hi There.  All is good over here.  I'm dreading the list I just made of things I need to do before Wednesday.  It's long.

QOTD: I guess the only thing I really collect is Christmas ornaments from everywhere we go.

  • Good morning! Off to school in a minute - I love my Monday schedule! I sure hope this week is better than the last. The only good thing about DH being temporarily unemployed is that I don't have to depend on the bus to get to and from school - I get to sleep more!

QOTD: Dust, in my house I guess ;)
  • I can't fall asleep. I was up so late most of the weekend I can't seem to get back into a routine. I guess my goal for Monday is to clean the bathroom and tidy up the living room. I I might go through some moving boxes. Then I want to spend some time on my hobby and do my nails and toes.

QOTD: I collect nail polish. I got really into it about 5 years ago now. I even categorize it on a excel sheet and have all the colors painted on nail wheels. Not to mention the special storage I bought for it at Ikea. :D

  • Hello!

Today is not bad.  Work is a bit stressful, but hopefully it will get better in a few days.  The real estate company called Dh today to say that the landlord is sending a crew to measure the house for new carpet/tile, so we are a bit nervous about that.  We really don't want to have to move.  Our lease isn't up until June, but still, it's making us a bit nervous.  We have a rental inspection on Thursday, and the measurers will be here that morning, so maybe we can get some answers to ease our nervousness.  Maybe it's just routine.  The carpet and flooring are a bit worn.

QOTD:  I collect crayons.  I have loved boxes of crayons since I was a kid and buying school supplies.  I always hated to use them, so even though we got a new box year after year, I only used one.  I still have the box from when I was in 2nd grade.  All the other boxes are either practically new, or completely unopened and never used.

Haha - That was my first thought, too! ;-)

Not a whole lot going on here today.

QOTD: I've never been much of a collector except of notes I've taken and papers for all sorts of stuff. I have a hard time throwing things away in general, so it's probably good that I don't make a hobby of collecting more things. :-)

How many boxes do you have?

  • Good morning! 3:30 am here and I am up feeding minibini. No plans for today other than some cooking and housework. And hopefully a bit more sleep.

QOTD: nope. I move too much, it's just not practical.

I have 15 boxes of 64, and another 10 or 12 boxes of smaller boxes, including some special edition crayons, and 4 packs of the relatively new twistable crayons.

  • kelly, I have a hard time throwing away things, too.  I have emotional attachments to old t-shirts, etc.
  • Morning -

I feel like I've been gone forever.  Went to Perth for a week for SDs graduation and spent last week trying to get back into the swing of things. I hate long (ish) holidays.  they remind me that I really like being a SAHW.

I also see that not much fun was had around here.  Just trying to figure out what all happened.

ooh, good news!  today we got a new dishwasher and finally found a dining table we both could live with.  The table was on clearance for 70% off and the dishwasher was mis-marked, so we got it for about $400 off.

QOTD:  I only "collect" one object from every place we've been together.  So, is that collecting or just souvenirs?  I try to keep it all to a minimum because I hate dusting.

  • I love the way brand new crayons smell.  I think I'd still like to color in a coloring book with them.

I love them too. I got a box of a few really old ones at an auction. I need to take some time soon and look at what I got. Been so busy with moving. I also have a set from Crayola that I found at the second hand shop in Zurich. Has the price on it from the local grocery store.

  • Morning INs. It looks to be a pretty busy week at work, so I'm hopping on here while I sip my tea in preparation for starting to tackle it.

QOTD: It is dangerous in my family to collect things, or even hint that you like something. If you do, the extended family on my mom's side will buy you ALL of that thing.

For instance, my aunt used to collect bears. Then for Christmas, all she would get is bears. Stuffed bears, bear socks, cards with bears on them, bear figurines. Now she says, 'I can't even stand the *** sight of them.'

I guess because of that, I've tried my hardest to avoid collecting things. Closest I think I've come is collecting travel books. I like to keep them from my trips, even once they have gone out of date, because it feels like a snapshot of a place as I saw it.

  • Today is good, I've been on the job hunt for awhile. A month ago, I had an interview with a company that seemed promising but something didn't feel "right" about it, anyway they've been leading me on for a month saying they'll send me an offer, they had bought me a laptop (I never accepted anything) and after following up AGAIN yesterday, I was supposed to hear back today (nothing.). I've basically written them off, plus i wasn't really that excited it, so I think it worked out. However, today, I got a request to interview with another company next week, so I guess everything happens for a reason :)

Other than being happy about that, not much else is going on. Cleaning up the kitchen and taking the pup on a walk a little later.

QOTD: Not really, I guess I "collect" plates from the places we travel and DH collects magnets.

I'm the same way, anything I collect and my mom will buy me everything of it. If it's travel-related, though, I other people can't really collect it for me.

I like what you say about keeping your travel books, that they are a snapshot of a place as you saw it.

  • Good morning! I had a super fun weekend but I'm paying the price today, am exhausted and still battling this stupid winter cold. Have physical therapy after work and then going to dinner with friends.

QODT: I'm a collector :-) I get a magnet and xmas ornament every place we go and I collect old (pre 1950s) books. I like buying them in person though so I go to bookshops and charity shops to look for them instead of buying properly online. I don't know anything about them, I just like the look and feel of them (and they have to be something I've either read or would like to read one day) so I buy what I like as opposed to what's 'valuable' Eventually I'd like to have a proper library with shelves up to the ceiling...

My mother has a huge collection of pre-war/during war British mysteries and adventure books for girls (Cherry Ames & Sue Barton).  There is something really cool about those books.  The pre-war ones are very nice and made to last, while the ones published during the war are really small and fragile, with thin pages and cramped type.  She is always on the lookout for better copies of the ones published during the war.

  • Good morning.  We had a good weekend, with a good workout at the gym yesterday which I'm feeling this morning.  But otherwise, typical Monday here.  Busy with work and then quiet night at home.

QOTD: Not now.  Dh hates clutter, and with all the moving it wasn't really practical.  I used to buy a pack of cards from places I travelled, but I stopped doing that for some reason.

  • Oh boy, it seems I missed a lot this weekend.

I'm working from home today as the baby furniture is being delivered and put together as I type. I'm also trying to get all of the baby stuff washed...this is making me miss my larger washer and dryer.

QOTD: I don't think I really collect anything although after doing some cleaning yesterday my DH would probably say that I collect plastic storage bins in order to keep everything organized and it's ridiculous. : )

kelly, I have a hard time throwing away things, too.  I have emotional attachments to old t-shirts, etc.

Me too. I still have shirts from 10th grade. Embarrassed Occasionally DH will try to make deals with me - if I buy a new shirt I have to toss an old one, etc, but it usually doesn't work. I'm thinking of really going through my summer clothes and sorting stuff out, though. We'll see if it actually happens or if I come up with an excuse to keep everything ("oh, but even though that tank top is now 2 sizes too small and has stains in the armpits, I could wear it for working in the garden...").

  • So far so good today. I have to clean and do laundry in preparation for our guests coming in this week. I'm procrastinating on that by nesting.

We don't collect anything except passport stamps. We move way too much to keep lots of stuff.

  • Morning ladies!  Nothing much going on here...except my tummy hurts and I'm not feeling well.  Otherwise, just another typical monday full of work and sleepiness.

QOTD:  I don't really buy souveniers or collect things.  I used to have a book collection (around 2,000 books), but when we moved into our house after getting married, I donated them all to the local library.  Made it a lot easier for when we moved overseas and we tossed a bunch of other stuff we didn't need.  Now, we're both so used to living in a tiny space that I can't stand having lots of stuff around, so no collecting.

That is awesome.   Silly me, I thought it was just a blog, but there's a whole organizational science to it too!  I think it's so cool the random hobbies and collections people have.

    Crayon collection is awesome too!

I agree that collecting souvenirs can be fun, but annoying because you have to dust them.  I think every time I dust I should just put things behind glass or in storage because dusting each piece is time consuming and lame.

  • Good morning. I no longer have a job so I have several weeks of sitting around at home until I leave in December.

I'm about to have a brownie for breakfast.

  • Morning. I'm recovering from a busy weekend. We hosted 13 people for an early Thanksgiving. It was a lot of fund, but man, it was a lot of work. I'm also countig down the days to when I go on holiday. I leave for South Florida on Friday! I can't wait to see my family.

QOTD: Nothing. Well, also dust, I guess.

  • Morning. We've discovered some humidity traces in the spare room & an expert is coming today to check where it comes from/give us a quote. I really hope it's something the insurance covers & easy to fix - either way, I can't be bothered with more work in the house, it seems to never end!

QOTD: I kind of collect boxes. I like to get decorative boxes from places we visit. And not a collection per say but I'm a big softie & keep a few boxes of souvenirs.

  • Morning! I have to work today and then I have German class tonight. It is going to be a long day.

    QOTD: I collect stacking dolls.
