I'm bored. What's everyone up to lately? Any fun plans for the upcoming holidays??
Re: What's new?
I'm bored too. Work is slow-ish right now, which I like, but it also makes it harder for me to concentrate when there's no pressure! No real holiday plans... although, I am taking off a whole week at Thanksgiving, and two whole weeks for Christmas! I started this job right as busy season was getting going, so I didn't have time to take any vacation time, so I'm cramming it all in at the end. I think that I'll spend some of my time off painting - I finally have ideas for how to do a couple of rooms in our house, so I can get in gear and get going on them.
ETA: I love your flowers in your siggy. I rarely like purple and orange together, but I love how they look in your flowers! So pretty
I'm in my last month of slow-ishness at work. It's about to get super crazy, but I think I'll welcome it. We're also short staffed right now (2 people in my department instead of 4 1/3) sooo that's been fun. I just hope we get the new person hired asap so I can get some training done before I get too busy to do even my own job.
and thanks about the flowers! I loved them together.

Hello, hello!
We don't have anything planned for the holidays. My parents were trying to get us to head to WI with them, but that just wasn't going to work out. I think we're going to have Christmas Eve at our house this year. We haven't done that since being in this house, so that should be nice. I love being a hostess. I might even do a tablescape, a la Sandra Lee.
We're also short staffed right now. But that's not ending anytime in the foreseeable future. They actually closed our two open positions. So, that's nice. Tampa is supposed to be absorbing that work. My reading between the lines means that this doesn't bode well for the future of our department.
I've been submitting my resume to places like crazy. In the past 3 weeks, I've probably submitted it to at least 20 different comapnies. Hopefully I'll find something else soon. I'm even applying for work in downtown Chicago, which will mean I'd have to take the train in, and I'd have an even longer commute than I do now, but at least I won't have to drive to work anymore!
We're short staffed too. I started here in March, with two people above me and one at the same level as me (but with less experience, so I'm sort of her superior, although she doesn't report to me or anything like that). Well, one left the company, and one moved to a different role, leaving me as the senior-most non-managing person. It stresses me out sometimes, because I don't know enough about this job to be the person that people come to with questions! They have both of those senior positions posted, but it's a really difficult level to find people for, so who knows. Hopefully we get some good people in before the spring, when things start to ramp back up!
We're leaving for Ohio on Friday and staying there until Friday after Thanksgiving so we'll be home for our anniversary. I'll be on travel restrictions for Christmas, so we're not doing anything for Christmas.
Otherwise, no new noteworthy news.
I am on board with everyone else who says that their work is understaffed, but that isn't likely to change for me any time soon since they just recently made some cutbacks in my department. One of the many joys of being a tax accountant.
My DH's dad and step mom are coming to visit us for Thanksgiving, and we are all going to dinner at my parents house. I am so excited that we didnt have to choose between families for the holiday's this year.
Our anniversary is next weekend, but we probably wont get to celebrate at all until we go on vacation since my husband is "on call" next Sunday, which means that he will have to be at the hospital from 6am to 9:30pm. He currently only gets one day off a week, and it is either Monday or Tuesday. I cant wait until this rotation is over!
Other than that, nothing really new.
Hello!
Not too much new going on. Our first anniversary was almost two weeks ago already. We didn't do much because we're going away in January, but we went out to dinner and had a nice time
H is starting his new EMT job next week. It's only part time, so he'll have to stay at the hospital for the time being in order to keep his insurance, but hopefully that will be temporary. He's very excited to be starting.
Thanksgiving is going to be spent in MA with my ILs. Christmas will be at my parents' because my grandparents and uncle are coming up from Florida for the first time in YEARS for the holidays. We don't have any plans for NYE yet, but we leave for Florida/Mexico on January 8th!

I missed that you were a tax accountant - me too! What type of work do you do, again? I'm in corporate tax compliance, in industry not public.
This Friday is DH's birthday, so we're having a small party, and Saturday my dad and I are going to the Big Game (Cal-Stanford).
My family is being a little nuts about the holidays this year. Normally, DH and I have not done the holidays with my family, but I received more than a little pressure this year. I know the holidays will be hard no matter what because of losing my mom, so I'm not really looking forward to them. We are doing Thanksgiving at a mediocre but over-priced French restaurant selected by my dad and aunt. My godfather is hosting Christmas at his club, which is always nice, and I'm especially close to him so I'm kind of almost looking forward to that. I'd like NYE to be just DH and me, but we'll probably end up going to a party with others.
I switched to full time corporate tax compliance in July when we moved, but I still work part-time remotely for my old small public accounting firm. I actually really miss public accounting, but since corporate accounting pays so much better, and doesn't require the public accounting hours, I cant really justify going back to public full time.
By the way, have you seen this commercial? It has been circulating around our office and I thought is was hystarical.

just getting ready for the holidays - we are no longer going to two places in one day having a baby to lug around and all, it just would be too much for him and who wants to make a baby sit i a car on the holidays?
DH's parents have yet to evolve from how they celebrated when their kids were little but their youngest is now 20 and they need to realize with their kids having kids things have to change. Three (out of 7) of their children became parents this year!
I'm also trying to mentally prepare myself for going back to work. Disability and all brings me to mid-Dec but that's such a crappy time to leave DS and go back so I am taking some additional non-paid time and going back 1st week in January.
We are leaving for Aruba tomorrow for our anniversary and will be there for Thanksgiving.
Christmas is always fun in my family. We do Christmas day at my house and we decorate like crazy. This year will be fun because of my 2 nieces.
My family draws names on Elfster and then we all buy for the kids, my grandfather, and my brother (its his birthday).

We have both been busy wrapping up this semester (my first in graduate school). Yesterday was our anniversary and we had a wonderful day. My husband surprised me with a really sweet gift - a love letter for every day of the month leading up to our anniversary since the traditional gift is paper. We recently bought a juicer and consider that our major gift but we stumbled upon some really great and cheap Danish modern end tables while shopping on our anniversary so that was an unexpected surprise. We started the day with coffee and donuts enjoyed while taking our dog for a walk in the park, then had lunch and window shopped, and ended the day with a dinner/movie combo (a local artsy movie theater and expensive restaurant have a combo that we have been wanting to try). Unfortunately, we both thought the dinner was pretty meh but enjoyed the movie.
Otherwise, we are prepping for the holidays. For some reason I am really pumped about Christmas this year. We bought some fun crafty things to do together like make ornaments, a wreath, etc - inspired by Pinterest of course - and I can't wait to put up the tree and decorations this weekend. We aren't doing much for gifts since we are saving up for a sectional but I hope to do some nice things for our pets. I know that might be crazy but I think it's similar to parents being excited about their children's gifts - I can't wait to see how excited my dog gets over his treats and how cute he looks in his sweater. (I am not a fan of dog clothing but we have a greyhound and it's cruel not to dress them in a sweater/coat during the winter since they have no body fat)
