Anyone who's had a root canal....

How long should I expect my tooth to be hurting afterwards???

I had the procedure done on Friday, but my tooth is still VERY sensitive and I can't really chew on the side it was done; it's a molar so it's used to taking a pounding.  I'm hoping it goes away quickly because H and I are leaving for vacation in T-minus 6 days!!!  I don't want to have to worry about this while I'm supposed to be realxing!

Any advise or information you ladies have would be great!! Thanks!

Re: Anyone who's had a root canal....

  • Hmm. I have had 4 root canals (all on molars) and I was never sore past the 2nd day. I would say if it doesn't go away by tomorrow, give your dentist a call and make sure there is no infection or something else going on. Hope you feel better!

One root canal here and same response. Mine did not hurt but I was aware of my tooth which I thought was strange since a root canal kills the root. This awareness took a couple of years to disappear. I just got a crown and it hurts to brush my tooth but is getting less over time. Not too painful to brush but annoying and I don't brush that side as well. I recommend you go back to the dentist.

  • I've had one, and it was uncomfortable for a few days after but only because I kept playing with it with my tongue. Not really sore past the 2nd day,  i'd say call them back up if it hurts still...

  • Thanks Ladies!

I did call the dentist yesterday and they gave me a prescription for some pain meds.  If it's not better in a few days, then I need to go back Sad

Here's hoping all goes well and I can enjoy my vacation!
