***GRSP*** re: guns

There was an interesting conference a coworker went to regarding boys and guns in school. The speaker was talking about how most boys are interested in guns/play fighting. When the boys get to school, guns/play fighting are taken away and boys are forced into "girl" roles i.e.: sit and draw, read quietly, play house, etc. Boys then start disliking school because they aren't allowed to do things they want to do and play how they want to play.

No real point to this post other than the fact that your Henry Christmas List reminded me of it.

Re: ***GRSP*** re: guns

  • Wow, I have a lot of problems with that logic.

I guess asking active kids to sit quietly would make sense, but putting guns into a boy slot and drawing into a girl slot is crazy to me.

A boys interest in guns is linked to encouraging boys to be macho and violent.  That's not what we're encouraging in Henry.

I know that you didn't make that presentation.  I'm aiming my "that's crazy talk" at you.
