First of all, hello... I'm Gracey and usually hang out on GP and Entertainment... But, thought I'd wonder over here for a few ideas. Here goes:
My dad is retiring from the police force after over 30+ years. My mom, sis and I are planning the party. It will be the week after Christmas before New Year's, so my house will still be majorly decked out for Christmas. I'm looking for a few ideas to help it really feel like a party that celebrates and honors my dad and not just another holiday bash.
I should mention, my dad is pretty low key, but very well liked and respected. If it were entirely up to him he wouldn't even care about having a party. And, this party is more for church friends and family as his department is having a reception at the station in his last week of work.
So, any ideas on how to make this special for him and for family and friends who wish to celebrate him and the great things he has done in his career as a police officer. And wish him well into the next season of life.
Re: My Dad's Retirement Party
Congrats to your Dad!
-Slide show of his life including police academy, co workers etc...
-On your Christmas tree, you could hang pictures of your Dad as ornaments
-Have people write kind words, a memory etc of your dad, and hang them on a tree
-Have people wear badges with their names and/or police hats
There are a lot of cute ideas you can do for police officers.
I almost hate to say it because it plays into a silly sterotype, but it would be too cute so I have to put it out there. He's a police officer - I think you need to serve doughnuts!
Might be cool to arrange for a couple people to give a toast.
Have a presentation where you make him give you each piece of his police uniform, and you give him back "retirement gear" - such as, he gives you a MagLite, you give him a book light. He gives you his work shoes, you give him some slippers. He gives you his mace, you give him a nozzle for a gardening hose.
