flattened carpet

Every time we move into a new apartment or house, the carpet is new and fluffy.  Within a couple of months, though, it is all flat and matted down in the high traffic areas and no amount of vacuuming or trying to fluff it with a fork seems to help.  I vacuum every day so I know it isn't a lack of vacuuming.  What am I doing wrong, or what do I need to do to keep my carpet fluffy?  Do I just need to shampoo it?

Re: flattened carpet

  • Hmmm...maybe it's just the quality of the carpet?  You could try steaming it with a carpet cleaner and see if that improves the situation.
  • Do you really, literally, fluff it with a fork? Or is that some expression...

Only where a table or chair leg has left a mark, lol.

  • You can put a piece of ice where the furniture flattened area is.  It probably is the apt grade carpet.  Shampooing it would help.  You might need a vacuum with a better roller brush though.

  • Getting it professionally cleaned should help that.
