My good friend invited me out to a brand new Mommy and Me class/meeting last week. There were about 7 or 8 other moms there and they were all so wonderful, but they all had little babies... the oldest other than Wyatt was 7 months old, and she isn't crawling yet. Needless to say I had a really rough time holding onto Wyatt and keeping him from running around and trying to play with all the other babies' toys. I felt like I was always running around after him, and in a room full of immobile babies I felt like I was out of place and a total annoyance.
My friend has asked me to come out again today and I'm really nervous about it. I think everyone thought Wyatt was adorable (and of course I have to admit that he is and he loves the extra attention), but I worry that my being there is getting in the way of the other moms enjoying themselves... but I hate to keep Wyatt at home all day all the time because he's too active. It wouldn't be fair to him.
Opinions? Am I being too self conscience or do you think that I might be getting in the way of the other moms enjoying their time there?
Re: Would you go?
I'd go. I am also party of a Mom's playgroup and I have the opposite problem. Mackenzie is by far the youngest baby there. So all the other kids are playing, etc and we just sit there
What I am not looking forward to is when it inevitably becomes my turn to "host", because we literally have zero toys that any kid older than a baby would want to play with.
I think despite the age difference, it is good for Wyatt to be around other kids. You can start teaching him things like how to share and how to act around younger kids for when you guys have another baby!
I'd go. It's socialization that you need too!
I wish there was a local mommy and me group where I'm at!
I would go. Yes, it is exhausting to run after your LO, but it's good socialization for you both.
Thanks girls
I went, and Wyatt sat through the whole lesson half of the meeting, and he mostly just walked around the other babies, it wasn't half as bad as I was expecting, thank goodness!! He was so funny, he walked around the circle a few times and pointed at every.single.baby with his 'Oh!' look on his face before moving onto the next one... like a little ring leader lol. I was pretty worried about him trying to reach out and pull hair/grab eyes/steal blankets but it never happened, although he definitely needs to be around little babies more before we have another one.
Tomorrow I'm going with a couple of the moms to the pool, so I am very very glad that I went!
