I bought a gateway laptop a year ago. It stopped charging and then finally wouldnt come back on. I took it to a computer repair store yesterday and they are saying the power supply is fine and that the motherboard is the problem. Of course my warranty is out so it will be $340 to fix it. I only paid about $500 for the thing. I have to have a computer for work since I work from home. My question is would you buy another laptop, have this one fixed (they will only give me a 60 day warranty on it because it will be refurbished) or buy a desktop? If you suggestion I buy one please let me know what you suggest. I dont have a ton to spend so I would like to stay under $600. TIA

Re: question about computers
I would buy a new computer.
I'm sorry but I don't know off hand which one to recommend. I had a Dell that worked for years (gave it to a friend) and I liked it a lot. I never had any problems.
Have you thought about going on to a site such as Amazon and searching for computers under $600 and then search by ratings?
There are 5 laptops listed on Best Buy's weekly offers all under $600, all name brands:
