vent - unemployed teacher...

I've been trying to get an elementary teaching job for a year and a half now. There aren't many schools in this area, so very few positions ever open up. I've subbed and done interims, particularly at one school where the teachers and principal know me and know that I'm a good teacher. I just found out that the principal is resigning to work for the state Department of Public Instruction.

I thought I had a really good shot at getting a job at that school next school year, but now I feel like I'm back at square one. My best shot at a teaching job will no longer be in position to hire me.

Any other certified teachers out there feeling similar frustration?

It took me longer than a 1.5 years! Keep doing what you are doing and something will open up.

My brother is in the same boat...its so tough out there right now. But if you keep up subbing and showing how great you are there will be something soon. If you won over that principal than youre bound to win over the next one

I've been out of school for two years and can't find a job don't feel bad.  Unfornatly I know I need to move to find anything buy I own a house.  Good luck and keep doing what your doing.

I would get a written reference for him and have his contact information in case a future school district wants to call someone.

Also- get to know the new principal right from the start and let him/her know how awesome the school is and how you like being a part of the community. Never hurts to be on the good side of their secretary as well.

A year in a half isn't bad, and subbing is a great experience. I have done it for three years, until I moved for my husband to go to school. There are no teaching jobs anywhere, trust me I know your pain all of my friends are in the same exact situation. GOOD LUCK!

Just keep applying and don't give up.  It's tough out there.  We had a history opening at my school and over 600 people applied.
