Thanksgiving plans?

What's up for turkey day ladies? Are you cooking, traveling, spending it with family or just yourselves?

We are hosting for 13 and I'm clueless on how to cook the bird, but we're really excited to have a big family dinner in our new house.

  • I am hosting again at my house, like I have for the past few years.  One trick that I picked up for the turkey is to get a turkey bag.  I think Reynolds makes them, they are in the aisle with the freezer bags and plastic wrap.  Thaw your bird, pull out the giblets, I put butter under the skin and rub it over the bird, salt and pepper, stuff it, and then put the whole bird in the bag.  Put a couple of tablespoons of flour in the bottom of the bag, and cut a few vent holes in the top, then throw it in the oven.  The bag keeps the meat moist and also makes cleanup pretty easy.  Good luck!

  • We've been celebrating with Abba and her DH for a few years now.  This year it will be at our house. DW does the bird, stuffing, and gravy.  Abba does appys and sides.  I do salad and baking.  I like that it's just a simple day.

  • I'm also spoiled.  We go to my ILs and I'm usually in charge of bringing the squash.  This year my MIL is giving me acorn squash from her garden so I'll be preparing that and taking it over.  One of these days I need to be included in the cooking so I can have a clue and at least offer to host one of these years!

  • The family is going to my cousin's house.  I'm making the rolls and a pie.  I decided to make these cute pilgrim hats out of cookies and reece's PB cups.  So cute!
