What is your favorite holiday? Why is it your favorite holiday? Do you do anything special to celebrate that holiday? (and for all of you self centered ladies out there, I will count birthdays as holidays

Re: QOTD
Christmas is my favorite holiday. I just love the cozy feelings it entails. I love Christmas music and cookies and food and family and snow and the ambiance of Christmas lights *sigh* I'm really excited for Christmas!
We used to go to church on Christmas eve then come home, eat nachos, and watch A Christmas Story (more recently Love Actually). Now that I'm married things are a little different. DH and I didn't really do anything on Christmas Eve last year (because we didn't have our passports), but this year, we are going to celebrate with his dad's family in Canada on Christmas Eve. We spend Christmas at my parent's house.
I'm nervous about his mom moving back down from up north because I'm afraid she'l want us for Christmas, and I'm not really willing to sacrifice Christmas with my family. It just wouldn't feel right....
EDIT: ALSO, when I lived with my parents (and I did this w/ DH last year) I'm ALWAYS the first one up, and I get really excited, so I blast Christmas music to wake everyone up
Christmas for SURE! I love the holidays. My family always has a tradition of going to the candle light service at our church on Christmas Eve, then we go home and have a nice cooked dinner made by my mom.
I am not sure what we are going to do this year since it is H and I's first Christmas, but I am looking forward to creating our own traditions that work perfectly for us.
I love Halloween! I love to decorate my house and see all the kids dressed up. I think I love it most because the fall is my favorite season.
Christmas is also a close second because I have fond memories of spending it with my mom's family every year.
I love the Christmas season - it's definitely my favorite time of the year. I love listening to Christmas music, putting up the tree, the stockings, decorating the house, seeing lights all around town, etc.
Although lately, the holiday itself has been kind of a let down. It's just stressful trying to coordinate when we'll be where with DH and I both having divorced parents (so we literally do 4 Christmases) and siblings spread out all over the place and no one can agree on anything. It pretty much always ends with someone being upset with me. Last year I didn't even see my mom for Christmas because she was being difficult. The drama definitely takes some of the fun out of it.
I also love St. Patrick's day. Any holiday that involves drinking lots of beer is a winner in my book.

I love Christmas & then Thanksgiving.
Growing up my mom & I would go light looking, I have some places that I still remember as favorites. I try to go w/DH & now the kids each year, but people don't do it like they use it. I'm also afraid of losing that Christmas spirit when we start putting stuff out for it in Sept!
Thanksgiving I just love for the food: turkey, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, it's the perfect meal!
Christmas is my favorite. It's just such a "warm fuzzy" holiday. One of my favorite things to do is to curl up on the sofa with a blanket with no lights on except the Christmas tree. Love, love love!
I think my second favorite would be New Years. I love the idea of a fresh start to each year. I especially enjoyed it last year...it was my first trip up north (we stayed in Boyne).
Christmas. I love the music, the cookies, the lights, the traditions. I was thinking this week how sad I would be to be a different religion and miss out on all that stuff! I enjoy it so much.
Second fave would be Thanksgiving. All the fun with no presents to shop for :-)
Same here! I love all the family time, the Christmas events at church and around the area, shopping for presents and all the yummy food! It's just a really warm time of year, in spite of the weather!
We used to go up there every year with my family and a bunch of other families for New Years. I loved it there. You'll definitely have to go further north though to see some more sights!
