Anyone delivered in Flower Hospital?

I am planning an all natural, no pain med VBAC. I live in Bryan, OH, but drive all the way to Sylvania for prenatal care at Associates in Women's Health, a midwife group overseen by Dr. Jackson, DO. I LOVE them so far!

I haven't yet toured Flower Hospital, but that is the hospital they recommended for being natural birth/VBAC friendly. Anyone else had experiences with the staff there who were also planning a natural birth?

I want a hep lock, no continuous monitoring, delayed cord clamp, no bathing of baby, etc. Are they truly friendly to such things?

  • I delivered there.  They are pretty open to what you want.  I tried to go natural and my nurse was very helpful.  However, I did get an Epidural.

I loved Flower, it is smaller, nice, and everyone was very attentive.

     Good Luck

  • I had my OB clinical there and I would say that by hearing what kind of birth you're looking for, they're probably the right choice for you. All of the nurses I worked with were amazing :o)

I delivered my kids at Toledo because they have a NICU.

For some reason...I read this as 'everyone was very attractive' and I thought to myself "why would it matter if they were attractive, I certainly didn't notice whether everyone was very attractive when I gave birth" (thinking to myself perhaps that was the difference in getting an epidural).

    Don't mind me, I'm sleep-deprived.

  • Well, wish me luck! I'm touring Flower Hospital this Sunday most likely, and hope I like it!

  • I did not deliver at Flower, but I did tour there in case I would need to.  I also go to Associates of Women's Health, and I loved them!  I had my daughter at St. Luke's, but because of how busy they are, I toured Flower in case St. Luke's was full.  The staff was great during our tour.  They have two rooms with jacuzzis, which, if I remember correctly, they try to save for women who want med free births in case they want to labor in there.

I am sure you will continue to love the midwives and Dr. Jackson as well.  Irma was the one on call when I had my daughter, but I ended up having to have a c-section because we discovered she was face out.  Dr. Jackson was at Flower at the time, but he was at St. Luke's in a half an hour when they called him.  I didn't have much experience with him before, but I really liked him a lot.  I want to try for a VBAC as well whenever we have baby #2.  I feel like the entire staff is so attentive and caring, which I have not always felt before.

  • I'm 16w and plan to deliver at Flower. I see Associates in Women's Health too. So far, so good! I had a preliminary talk with them about all my natural birth wishes, and they said that everything I mentioned (delayed clamping, postponing bath and Vit K etc, heplocking the IV, eating in labor, laboring in whatever position I want) were not a problem. I can't wait to take a tour to make sure the hospital agrees. Good luck!
  • bloverde, I want all most of those things as well, except we won't get Vit K at all and want to give first bath whenever we choose, probably a day or so after. Flat tire meant our 1+hr trip to tour the hospital was postponed and we've yet to tour it. I've never toured a hospital, so I'm anxious about it! I'm just really hoping to get a  natural birth friendly vibe. As is, I feel apprehensive about going back to a hospital after my first awful experience.  If the "what ifs" didn't scare me, I wouldn't even want to leave home! As is, I sitll want to labor and stay out of the hospital for as long as I can, but still hopefully make it in time and not birth in our car!
