Classy Christmas party decorating ideas - pls help! :)

Happy Friday!  We are hosting a Holiday Party in December that I am hoping you can help with decorating ideas.  The "theme" this year is a "Snow Ball", so we want everyone to be able to get dressed up for the evening.  We are expecting about 65 people, so we want to try to decorate our unfinished basement for additional space.  We are planning on heavy hors d'oeuvres, desserts, wine/beer and a "signature martini" or drink.

I'm thinking white lights, candles, greenery, a few high top tables, Christmas music, etc..... Please share your photos, decorating ideas, or any other ideas with me!!

 Thank you!!
Maggie

  • Sounds like fun!

I would stick to as much white as possible for the "Snow Ball" - white linens, white lights, white plates/platters, clear cups, white signature drink, pearl white ballons on white ribbons (to give that snow ball in the sky feel), white coconut desserts, white invites, white chairs.

For music, I would go with modern renditions of holiday songs instead of traditional ones.

Maybe some white & silver garland to add a little sparkle since people will be dressing up.

    HTH.

  • I love doing a "chandelier" over my dining room table for our NYE party. I have used spray painted dowel rods or tree branches to create the installations. Then simply hang sparkly things from the branches. Last year I bought these hanging candleholders from CB2 and I love them!

    Have fun!

  • I responded in this post with many of our Christmas parties from last year.

And my Pinterest Christmas board has 120+ pins.

With that many people coming, do you have a solid plan for preparing and serving food?

  • Hi!  I agree with all PP re: decorating with all white... however from my past experiences have learned that all white only looks great in a room if there is lots of natural lighting. (Just like in nature when everything is covered in snow and it sparkles in the sunlight).

Use lot of candles, (battery ones too), X-mas lights, votives and such to keep the area glowing and beautiful instead of drab and institutional.  Esp. in your basement/lower level.

Also - be sure to play with texture too - sparkly, shiny, furry fabrics will add interest.

Good Luck!  and please post pictures and follow-up. :)

  • Really great and sounds like really amazing.......What about hanging frosted snowflakes from the ceiling and adding tea lights or clear string lights around the room..........Flower arrangements can be assembled using white flowers only.....

Try to use light blue, silver and white for the perfect look.....
  • I think a blue, white and silver color scheme would be perfect.  Tons of twinke lights and fake snow piled on the counters and tables.   You could spray tree branches silver and then spray a little adhesive on the tops of the braches and put glitter/ fake snow on the glue sections for center pieces.  Snow flakes all around the ceiling.  Maybe do a "photo booth with a blue/ silver background (just hang the fabric on one wall) and props like goofy snow hats/ mittens, signs with cute sayings (Snow Ball 2012 or Warm me up! etc), and fake snow to throw up in the air.  If kids are going to be there maybe a table with construction paper where they can cut out therir own snow flakes

Also, you could get a mold for an ice luge and have one at the bar area for shots.  it was a huge hit at a Snow Bunny party my friends threw.  I have also seen a little indoor snow machine (but it really just blew out soap bubbles).
