Could anyone please suggest some great preschools in the area. I live in NW and am looking for my LO to attend 2-3 mornings a week next September for half days ( or a few hours in the am) I would love to find a play based co-op one. Thanks!!!
Re: Preschools in Portland..
Wow, this board is sloooooooooooow. Not that I should talk because this is my first time on in ages.
Anyway, I can't help with recommendations since I'm out in Forest Grove, but there are so many wonderful play places in and around NW. I'd start frequenting them and join a local Mom's Club or two to get recommendations. That's how I decided on one for my son. I also spent time observing at various preschools, I had to set up an appointment and arrange a sitter for my younger son so it was a pain, but well worth it. We decided on a Montessori school for my son and though I really love their methods I have two issues with it. One, its 5 days per week, there is no 2-3 day option and I feel like its a bit much. I'm a SAHM and I want to be with him while I can. Also as amazing as the environment is, I guess I didn't take his personality into consideration well enough. He's a little wild for the whole "individual learning in a group setting" in otherwords, he's incredibly disruptive to the other children and I don't like that he's having to constantly be redirected. Just some advice from one Mom to another. I thought I'd done so well choosing a school and really did my due diligence but alas I do have some regrets. Good Luck finding the perfect fit for you and your little one! Oh, if you need someplace to start in finding play places or Mom's groups in your area, check out Mom's Club International, and check the NW Kids free magazine that is often at the Dr.'s offices and some retail stores around town. or go online to kidzlist.com or redtricycle.com and you'll likely find a ton on meetup.com.
