Hecklet

Just in case you check the boards on the weekends, I have a quick question. I had my tooth removed on Tuesday. Today, the gum on the tooth next to it is really red and sore and bled a little bit this afternoon.

I called the oral surgeon but their office sucks. It took me 5 minutes to convince the woman that I had an upper tooth pulled (like it matters and hello, pull up my freaking information and see which tooth you pulled if it's that important!). She said to brush that area well, despite the fact that the nurse after the procedure told me not to brush right there for a week. Stupid lady said to call on Monday if it's still bad. I tried my dentist and two other random dentists to see if I could get in but they all closed at noon. So what do you think? Should I really brush it or keep doing what I'm doing, use the salt water rinse and call my dentist on Monday?

If it matters, I'm not eating on that side at all and I've only had pudding, jello, mashed potatoes, stuffing and ice cream. I'm drinking a ton of water and brush and rinse with salt water right after I eat.

Thanks!

Re: Hecklet

  • I would think it would be normal for the tissue around where the tooth was extracted to be more irritated and more likely to bleed. The ares was put under a lot of stress and will heal rather quickly as the mouth is the fastest healing tissue of the body. Brushing it would agitate the tissue even more, in my opinion. Continue to baby the area and do the saltwater rinses. Sorry I didn't see your post until now. :(

  • Thanks. I didn't brush that area at all and just rinsed with salt water all weekend and the redness has gone away.
