From 8-11 last night and 11am-5pm today, I was at my good friend's new house. She closed yesterday and the work began shortly after. There's a ton of stuff to do, so I've been helping with taking down all of the wallpaper in almost every room. Last night, her husband left to go take care of their dogs shortly after I got there, but I didn't think anything of him leaving. Then today, he had several friends there, but they got almost nothing done. My friend, her parents, and I got a ton of wallpaper down and started filling some holes in the walls so that they'll be ready for paint tomorrow while her husband and his friends hung out in the basement "painting." First of all, I'm not sure why he's even thinking about painting the basement when there's so much to be done in the rest of the house, but second, they actually spent most of the day drinking beer and smoking weed down there.
His priorities are none of my business, so if he wants to let other things go while he finishes his man cave, whatever, but I busted my butt to help them and he mostly just hung out with friends. When my friend confronted him about not helping with wallpaper, he just said that he likes to do demo, not pull down wallpaper or paint walls. I wanted to scream at him. I'm more than happy to help my friend and I'm glad that I was able to help her with so much over the last two days, but it infuriates me that I'm sitting here exhausted and sore and he basically had a party today.
Re: I need to vent
I've been in situations like that before and it is infuriating. Your poor friend must have been mortified.
Just repeat to yourself - "I'm a good friend, I'm a good friend, I'm a good friend...". And give yourself an excuse for a glass of wine and a bubble bath.
Yeah, I felt so bad for her. I know she was upset and was trying not to show it.
I feel really good about the amount of work we got done and she's got very little wallpaper left to do on her own, so I'm happy about that.
Her parents are pretty oblivious to the weed smoking. They've lived upstairs from her parents for the last few years and they've never said anything about it. I think they thought he was actually doing work down in the basement. They're pretty naiive.
