HELP! Moving to FL from NY

Hi,

My husband, 7 month old and I (and dog!) are relocating to FL from NY soon (job related) and being lifelong NYers, we're a bit overwhelmed. We can live almost anywhere in the state but right now we're researching the SE. We are looking for an area near a city (population around 30,000+) with access to many stores, restaurants, things to do, etc and good schools. This may not narrow it down (ha!) but I figured Floridians may be able to offer some guidance/insight.

Many thanks.

Re: HELP! Moving to FL from NY

  • We just moved from PA. Not sure about population numbers but, I'd check out Coral Gables and Brickell. Miami in itself is a big city. Some neighborhoods we've really liked: Palmetto Bay (where we currently are), Pinecrest, and Kendall. I'm sure there is more but those places are where I did most of my research. If your looking for good schools, look for A rated school districts. This site helped me: http://miamirealestatecafe.com/resources/school-resources/

    The parks here are gorgeous!

  • I moved from NY to West Palm Beach 3 years ago and I absolutely LOVE my decision! Delray Beach and Jupiter are also great choices. Welcome to Paradise!
  • When we were planning on moving to FL we were planning to West Palm Beach. We LOVED it and the surrounding area. GL w/ your move!

  • My husband and I are moving to SE Florida in February (we live in Indy now). When are you all moving?

We arent sure where to live either (location wise). I've heard Pembroke Pines, Cooper City, Miramar are all nice areas.

  • There are quite a few great areas around here.  On the more northern end, Jupiter is a great area and it's close to West Palm Beach.  Sort of in the middle, Pembroke Pines, Coral Springs/Parkland, and Miramar are all nice areas (all are a little more west but still within about half an hour to Ft. Lauderdale.  On the southern end, there are quite a few subdivisions around Miami that I've heard are nice.  I don't know much about that area, but I do know that Coral Gables to the south is supposed to be nice as well as Pinecrest, which is also south.
