I have never really sent out Christmas cards, but I I think I might want to this year. A few questions....
1. Is it weird to put a picture on the card if I have no kids and no pets? (just me and my husband on the card)
2. What's your timeline? When do you actually take the picture?

I don't think its strange at all to have a photo of a husband and wife with no kids or pets!
If you are asking when you should get your photo taken, I'd do it asap only so you don't have to fight crowds and get a good deal on the photo, but if you are choosing a photo from during the year, any time is good. Either during the Christmas season, or any time during the year.
We have friends (married, no kids) who plan their holiday cards around their vacation. They have made signs (Merry Christmas) or worn Santa hats at the beach, on a cruise, etc. People with kids take photos from all year, too (sometimes summer vacation pics work well).
I don't think it is weird at all! We use one of our wedding pictures (a July wedding!) last year. This year we decided to choose one of our favorites from our trip to South America this past summer. Make it something fun!
I'll send ours out the first week in December.
