How far along are you? Do you feel prepared for the holidays in terms of shopping?
Anyone going shopping on Black Friday?
Do you like giving gift cards?
Do you have any great gift ideas this year? (Asking because sometimes I feel like I have a "go to" idea each year - like last year we gave several people gel pro mats for the kitchen [because they love to cook - those mats are so awesome]. Can't figure out any "go to" gifts this year though, so I'm getting a little desperate.)
Re: Christmas/holiday gifts
I'm not prepared at all. The only thing making me feel good right now is the fact that K's shopping is pretty much complete. She bought a bunch of stuff in Afghanistan (mostly scarves, hats, bags, etc) and those are the gifts for her family.
I still need to figure out K, my parents, my brother, and LO. We bought LO her gift from santa and we know one thing my parents are getting her so now I just need to figure out the little stuff.
No "go-to" gift yet this year but I'm looking for one too. :-p
I'm pretty prepared. I have about half of my shopping done.
We will be in LI for Black Friday but I never go out on that day. Not even to the grocery store. I hate it.
I don't like giving gift cards. I take gift giving very personally and take a lot of time and effort into giving someone a gift.
Nope. I also have no idea what I want but keep bugging the people I'm not done with to tell me what they want. Ha!
I just really started shopping this past week or so. I have a general idea of what I'm getting people so now I'm just watching for sales and bargains.
I do go out on Black Friday. I generally pick one place to go early, make a list, and only get what I have on the list, and get out...then later in the morning or early afternoon I go to the mall with my cousins...its tradition and we usually have a good time.
I hate giving gift cards....I'll give them for birthdays and stuff but I try to get everyone stuff for xmas that shows I put thought and effort into their gift.
I have nothing done yet.
I am not going out on Black Friday but probably will cyber-shop.
I hate giving gift cards, but they are the most practical for my teen nieces/nephew. I do usually add a smaller personalized gift as well. My inlaws exclusively exchange gift cards (that are asked for via a 'wish list') so it's very awkward with a bunch of adults opening envelopes and acting surprised. Ugh. I hate it.
I send boxes to each of my siblings that live out of town, and last year I did homemade biscotti and local coffee. They loved it so I will probably do the same thing this year.
Arctic- if you have friends that like to cook, a couple kitchen things I love are my silpat silicone baking sheet (come in various sizes) and a 1.5 tbsp 'cookie dough' scoop I got from Amazon- that thing comes in so handy for different stuff and it's inexpensive.
I have most of my list done. I've made almost all of my gifts (everyone on my list is getting at least 1 thing I made). I think I have 3 things left to make. Hopefully I can get those done before Christmas lol.
I'm not going shopping on black friday. I'm actually watching my nephew that day so my sister can shop.
I don't like giving gift cards as gifts. My immediate family does names for stockings on top of getting a gift for each person so I might put a gift card in the stocking but it's not the main gift.
My big gift idea is for the women - making placemats and table runners. For the men - making NFL or MLB fleece blankets and pillows. The guys gifts were very easy to make and didn't take a lot of time. Plus with Joann's coupons it wasn't too expensive.
I have been buying a few gifts here and there. I try to use coupons whenever I shop. I use to do 3 similar gifts for 3 of my friends, but about 2 years ago I ran out of ideas.... LOL ! Now I try and buy something I know they will like and use.
I do have one friend who prefers gift cards. I usually give her that and then I add something else that is personal.
I love going out on Black Friday. It is a tradition & I go with my Mom. The past two years we have gone to JCPenneys with our list and flyer. We then put our bags in the car and venture into the mall. Sometimes we find something, other times we just enjoy watching the people! Then we go to lunch!
The joys of teaching!
I feel behind in the shopping game... Usually I am much further along with my shopping, although I do know several things I am getting, but havent bought yet.
I LOVE Black Friday, we dont get up early or anytthing, but we do go shopping... usually I can score one good deal or so, but this year I dont see anything that has caught my eye as a "must have"
