What do you have to do? (Before major cooking on Thursday.)
Yesterday I baked the bread for the stuffing. Now it's getting all nice and stale. I also started brining the turkey last night. Today I will make pie crust and sugar cookie dough. Tomorrow is cake and sugar cookie baking, then Wednesday is pie baking, assembling and decorating the cake, and making the rest of the cookies.
Re: S/O Thanksgiving Prep
I've already cut up the celery and onions for the stuffing, made the compound butters, made sugar cookies and chocolate chip cookie dough and made the pie crust dough. So the rest of the week looks like:
Tuesday: Hard boil eggs, cut cheese for cheese and crackers, let the bread for the stuffing dry out, pick up turkey from the butcher
Wed: Assemble and bake pies, peel and cut potatoes and leave in water, assemble wild rice/corn casserole and I'm still deciding if I should make the rolls on Wednesday and do the first rise in the fridge or just do it all on Thursday morning.
Thursday: I have an entire timeline planned out for the big day. I love making lists and planning these things out!
That's awesome! Do you give the hens raw too?
Me too. I have a little book with all of my recipes, a shopping list, and a timeline. I made it last year because it was my first year hosting and I was nervous, plus I had a lot of extra time at work. I swapped out two of the recipes this year but otherwise it's pretty much the same.
Yep!
Our side dishes are green beans (Rudi is highly allergic), potatoes (Rudi and Bandit are both allergic), and cranberries (no allergies!), so the dogs will get a couple cranberries with their hens, and pumpkin, but that's a common occurence.
Will soak the cranberries tonight to get them ready for becoming a relish. Tomorrow I will bake the pecan pie. Wednesday I'll prep the 2 casserole dishes I'm baking/bringing Thursday and set out the rolls to thaw.
I'm just sooo glad I did all my shopping 2 weekends ago; L's birthday was this past w/e and I was in a spin just cleaning house and prepping for that party.
The Dogs and Us
Dang. Most of our food prep will be the day of.
Today, I'm making jambalaya and chocolate cake for DH's birthday. (made pumpkin bread for dessert, too)
Wednesday, I might prep by chopping up a few things, prepping a few other things, but not much at all.
Thursday will be the big day. We've got most of the shopping done. There are a handful of items I'll need to pick up wednesday, because they wouldn't keep/I couldn't find them on Sunday, but it shouldn't be too hard to get them.
Of course, I have house guests that have all said they want to pitch in and help with supper. I think they feel a little bit at a loss of what to do with themselves... And, we're staying relatively simple for the meal, too...
