SF Opera & Dinner Recs

My friend has 4 free tickets to the SF Opera so 4 of us girlfriends are going this Saturday. Can anyone recommend a place to eat near the opera, walking distance would be great. Thanks!

Re: SF Opera & Dinner Recs

  • Before or after ? Operas are long, so if you go after its going to limit options. :)

  • Also, what's the budget?

We went to Absinthe before the ballet and that was very good, though a bit more on the pricey side. They're used to people coming there before shows though so they can get you in and out quickly if you need them to, without rushing you through the meal.

Jardiniere is also nearby. Never been there myself but have heard good things. Definitely pricey.

Hayes Street Grill might also be a good option.

I second Absinthe.  Excellent food and they can work within a time frame to allow you to enjoy your meal and still get you to your event on time.

I was going to suggest Absinthe too. I've only been there for brunch so far (which was excellent btw) but I'm hoping to fix that soon.

  • I see you already decided, but for the future, I recommend Max's. It's just up Van Ness from the opera house, totally in walking distance.

Also, what opera did you see? I'm an opera student at San Jose State and I try to get up to SFO as much as I can. H and I are seeing Carmen on Saturday. :)
