Point & shoot digital camera question

The feature that is MOST IMPORTANT to me is crisp, clear, close-ups. I will mainly be photographing very tiny things like insects.

To get this, do I want to increase the optical zoom or the megapixels?

I've been reading about this for hours and the answers leave me more confused than when I started googling. Can anyone break it down for me?

Re: Point & shoot digital camera question

  • To shoot close up images you want a camera that has the equivalent of a macro lens to shoot up close.most of the time when you read the specs of a camera the lens with an optical zoom that starts around 28mm for a macro lens or will have a focal length of around 6mm. The lower these two numbers, the closer you will be able to focus on an object. The number of megapixels really doesn't affect the macro settings.
