I really want to hear about your sky diving adventure! How was it?

Re: *JHap*

  • It was AWESOME. They pick you up in a limo at the strip, and it's about a 20min drive to the airport. We planned it for the very first morning we were there, because I really thought I would be having panic attacks as it got closer, and I didn't want to ruin the vacation. I'll admit that riding in the limo and filling out the paperwork (does it really have to say "DEATH" quite so many times??) was slightly terrifying, but that was the worst part.  We ended up having to reschedule due to weather (we could have jumped, but would've gotten only half the height and none of the view), but we stuck around for abt 2h that day trying to wait it out, and the guys were just so cool and laid back (but not in an I-don't-care-what-I'm-doing way) that it actually put me at ease a TON. So when we came back the next day, I was pumped.

The actual jump was really great. The plane was the smallest thing I have ever EVER seen... my tandem instructor sat facing backwards next to the pilot.. I was between his legs (there were no seats, just a slightly-padded floor..), and then DH's instructor was next to me (behind the pilot) with DH between his legs, and you MAYBE could've fit a chihuahua in the extra room. I had to fold my legs up just for DH to have room to get out. I freefell for 30s at 120mph and then it took about 5min to coast down on the 'chute.

    Things I didn't expect:
-the plane was so small that we didn't JUMP out.. we sat on the edge with feet dangling and then ROLLED out.
-there is NO "pit-in-the-stomach" feeling like in a roller coaster. I don't know the physics/biology of what goes on for that, but there is NONE of it, which was so awesome.

I HIGHLY recommend it, but i'm also very very glad we did it in Vegas.. much cooler scenery!

  • That's so awesome! I really want to sky dive and go to Vegas so maybe I can combine the two in the future. It wasn't awkward being strapped to some random dude? That's the part DH doesn't like.

  • No, they are really awesome and funny. I was worried about it being awkward, but it totally wasn't. Like, when I was getting in the plane and had to get between his legs, I scooted back a bit, and the guy goes, "Oh, come on.. do you see the size of this plane? Back that ass up!" haha. But in a non-creepy way, I swear.  I'm sure it depends HUGELY on the instructors, but it wasn't awkward at all for me. For one, you are wearing a suit plus harnesses, so it's not like you're skin-on-skin.. And once you're out of the plane, you don't even notice. It's kind of like having someone in the back seat of a car -- you're in for the ride together, but that's about it.

  • Haha! Your instructor reminds me of our zip line guys in Jamaica. I was having a hard time getting the harness over my hips and jean shorts. One of the guys looked at me and said "you've got a lot of booty". It was hilarious and made me not so self conscience.

  • haha yeah I think it takes a certain type of person to do that for a living, and it's exactly my type of person. :)

DH's instructor, when we were first getting suited up, said "alright mates, I'll take the better-looking one of the bunch!"  And DH goes "I'm pretty sure you mean me."  He was totally kidding, but the guy didn't miss a beat and just strapped him up. haha (which was ok bec I told DH I wanted the other guy. lol)

If you are interested, when you get ready to actually plan your trip, sign up for the Vegas groupons. I think they run them somewhat regularly, esp in off-season (not summer). It was 1/2 price (they are much pricier than deland/palatka otherwise).

  • Sounds amazing! Did you get it videotaped?
  • yep! :)

  • So there was none of that pit in your stomach, free fall, can't catch your breathe butterfly feeling? Because that's the only reason I wouldn't do it. I HATE that feeling and the thought of it for 30 sec terrifies me. I'm so excited for you. That's awesome!!
