orlando/disney question..
hi ladies!
we are going to disney in a week. my son is 6mo old. we are staying in disney therefore not renting a car or planning on leaving disney. i am trying to figure out how much formula to bring. his formula comes in 8oz already made cans. i would have to bring at least 30 cans.
my question is...how close is the closest store that sells baby formula? my son is on similac alimentum. its for colic so sometimes stores do not carry much of it.
TIA
also how is the weather lately?what do you suggest i pack? sneakers or flip flops??
Re: orlando/disney question..
thanks ladies!
i read about the baby centers...they have formula there to purchase??
also is the hess walking distance?
No, the baby centers inside of the parks do not have formula to sell. And from what I remember, the three Hess stations on property (one by the Magic Kingdom, one across the street from Hollywood Studios and one across the street from Downtown Disney) do not sell baby formula, and they are *not* really walking distance from any of the hotels or parks. It's really quite a haul. I guess the one by Downtown Disney is the closest walking distance from Downtown Disney.
The closest store that will sell baby formula will be the Goodings grocery store in the Crossroads shopping center, but it will be higher priced and it will be about a mile or so walk from Downtown Disney. You may want to purchase the powdered form of the formula if it's available.
I know the baby care centers sell formula but I don't know what kinds.
The gas stations are def not in walking distance. You could def take a taxi to a grocery store if you wanted.
I found this online...apparently they do sell formula inside of the baby center, but Nestle sponsors it so they may only have Nestle products:
For those who don't know the baby center is in every Disney Park next to First Aide. They have plenty of great free services: private nursing rooms, wooden high chairs, free filtered water, a microwave (only for warming baby food/baby bottles), shorty tables to do some coloring at (aka, decompressing) and small, non-automatic toilets for toddlers, as well as the plushest changing tables you have ever seen.
They also offer emergency baby supplies for a price. I went for a quick visit Thursday afternoon and once there realized that I didn't have the diapers in my bag that I thought I did. So, i can report that diapers (all sizes) are $1 a piece. I asked and the costs for formula are are $3 for ready mixed and $15 for powdered. I didn't see the sizes of the containers, but I would gues that the ready mixed would be one bottles worth of formula and the powder would the small cans that usually go for $10 at the store. I thought the lady helping me said they were enfimil formula, but that can't be right because Nestle sponsers the baby center. They've got to be good start brand. (The diapers were Huggies brand).
I've also seen bottles, wipes, and Gerber 1st, 2nd, and 3rd foods in the cabinettes. Overall, based on the two prices I do have I would guess that you're going to much much better off bringing your own supplies, but in the case of emergency you've got a source.
There is at least one that is within walking distance from the Boardwalk Resort area. But unfortunately, I doubt they carry a good selection of formulas.
Would it be easier if you shipped the formula direct to the hotel? Or did an online order and shipped directly to the hotel.
Call the front desk at the resort and get their shipping info. Also tell them to put a note in your reservation that you will be expecting a package.
just as a heads up, you can carry on some formula in containers greater than 3 oz. (although i doubt you will be able to bring 30 cans)
Here's the info from TSA:
When traveling with your infant or toddler, in the absence of suspicious activity or items, greater than 3 ounces of baby formula, breast milk, or juice are permitted through the security checkpoint in reasonable quantities for the duration of your itinerary, if you perform the following:
You are encouraged to travel with only as much formula, breast milk, or juice in your carry-on needed to reach your destination.
So you can at least bring a few cans on with you and check the rest (if you are checking a bag) otherwise you might want to just take a cab to the grocery store.....
