Work Christmas dinner just keeps getting better....

So, you remember my dilemma with even attending the dinner?!  Things just got worse.

So, as my siggy displays, I have a gluten intolerance.  It's not well-liked in this small office, to put it lightly, and has definitely caused drama in the past.  Now, the other two have a FAVORITE restaurant in town (which their mutual friend owns/manages) that they were hoping to go to.  Turns out, the restaurant doesn't feel comfortable at all with serving someone with a gluten intolerance.  So, now I'm the reason that 5 other people can't dine at this restaurant.  Not only do I not want to go, now I'm the person they can blame for not getting to go to the other restaurant.  I'm confident I'll hear about that detail at the dinner, too.

So, now I've been assigned with finding somewhere I can eat.  Ugh.  Honestly, I'd like to suggest nowhere, but that's not an option.

So, does anyone have a suggestion of somewhere nice (such as a Pappa's Steakhouse kind of quality) that you've seen accommodate any sort of specific diet?  Even if you don't know if they accommodate, what would you suggest?  Keep in mind, anywhere outside of the Beltway would throw one of these other two in the office into a heart attack...I'm pretty sure.

  • Perry's Steakhouse

    Morton's

    McCormick & Schmick

    Flemming's

  • Perry's was very accomodating regarding my gluten allergy.

  • Oh, also, Pappasito's went out of their way to get me food I could eat, they even whipped up some special green sauce for me.  I'm sure Pappa's Steakhouse would be equally accomodating.

  • Yea, we did Pappa's Steakhouse last year, and they were definitely accommodating.  I'm just trying to see if, by chance, we could try something new this year.

Thanks for the link!  I've actually been to Hugo's and DH and I both liked it :)  I just don't think the bosses will be impressed or think it's very 'nice.'

  • Someone mentioned to me that Fogo de Chao was very gluten-friendly.

  • I don't have any better suggestions than those already given - but just wanted to say Ugh! How rude and self-centered of these people to give you crap about a medical issue YOU are having to adjust to and live with every.single.day. - I'm so sorry you're having to deal with that in addition to having to go to this awkward dinner in the first place! Huh?

I love all of these.  Brennan's would be awesome for the Banana's Foster.  YUM!

  • I guess I'm not understanding...you didn't want to go in the first place, now they want to go to a place where you may not even be able to eat.  Doesn't this mean you're off the hook?

I wish.  Though reluctant, they want to choose somewhere else so that we can all attend and eat.

  • May not be the environment that is being sought, but Maggiano's has a GF-friendly menu available.

  • Haven!  I was there last week with someone GF and they adjust many of the menu items to make them GF and let you know which ones cannot be modified. They have great steaks for the steak eaters too.

  • I don't have any suggestions, but WOW.  Your coworkers sound like a real treat :/  A medical issue that you have and have NO control over causes drama for them?  Self-centered, much?  I'm sorry you have to deal with them.  Heaven forbid one of them would end up with a similar condition.

...or worse.  NOT that I wish that upon them, but I'm just saying that there are matters much worse to deal with than a food allergy/intolerance.
