Help.. Gift for hubby.

DH and I budget out Christmas gifts. Last year I thought we did more than he said this year. He is all proud because he already got two and still has more left over. I have nothing for him, nada, not even an idea! What I was going to get, too expensive. FML. I cant even get a straight answer out of him. We have been married 4 months but together for 3 years. I feel like wife to hubby gift should be better than gf to bf. Any helpful tips?

  • Well, he is still the same person . . . no matter what the title! What does he like? Video games, movies, gadgets? There are a million things out there with lots of budgets. What are you looking to spend?

DH and I normally don't have a budget, but we decided $100 max this year b/c we are going on a big cruise this summer. (The budget doesn't include stockings b/c Santa does those!) Yes, I have gone over . . . shocker! We love buying each other presents!

  • Ask him to tell you/give you a list of a handful of things he wants. Walla.

This is what is was last year but he decided to randomly say 50 ugh. He likes video games but people have already claimed that one. Double ugh. I know he is the same person but I guess in my head I can give him a homemade frame and put a picture in it like our first year of dating. lol

Well duh that was my first attack but he says oh its all too expensive thats why its on my list for my parents. Which in honesty it is. I am a substitute teacher so I do not have a constant income and he works for a private school = sucky pay.

  • Does he have a favorite beer? (Does he drink?) It might be fun to put together a "man basket." Find a video game, some fun snacks, maybe a comfy pair slippers, a baseball cap, a fun vintage t-shirt, a six pack of a good beer, (I love Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA... but that only comes in a 4 pack, it's yummy!) Then maybe a frame of a few important pics, or even a small scrap book of your life together. This is your first Christmas as a married couple so maybe you could find a fun Halmark ornament to begin collecting for him. Assembling the basket can be done slowly, so if you spend a little more than $50.00 over the next few weeks it's a bit easier.

    Have fun!

Wow thank Ginger. That is a good idea. I guess I can somehow make it connect to his birthday too. His birthday is Dec 20th. I just talked him into letting me do 50 each :) So he doesnt have to know how much on each side.

  • i have been in the same boat as you....we are married for the same length of time and together three and a half years, our limit is $50....so, there's always a new video game coming out, does he like sports?  maybe he could use new sports equipment or tickets or a jersey to his favorite team? beer making kits are pretty cheap at bed bath and beyond.  favorite authors/ books? does he like tools?  I know tools can be expensive but keep an eye out in the ads and for good deals in stores and online, any music that he loves?  I know how it feels to want to find just the right gift and it's hard when they don't give any ideas (or in my case when he is so impulsive that he buys everything he wants right when he wants it and can't wait for christmas lol)  Good luck!
  • Wallet, watch, pair of shoes, concert tickets...

  • I've done event tickets before, even if it's to something that doesn't take place until after Christmas.

Sometimes I do "upscale" stocking stuffers, for example, I bought shaving cream and lotion from Sephora instead of the typical stuff he picks up from Costco. Godiva chocolates, gourmet deli items he likes. Stuff we don't eat everyday.
