Has anyone sewn or embroidered a "plasticy" bag before?

I have a friend who wants me to embroider on a bag she got for her MIL for Christmas.  It's kind of a plasticky material.  I'm not real sure it would turn out well if I did that.  Anyone else tried?

Re: Has anyone sewn or embroidered a "plasticy" bag before?

  • I embroidered a similar type of bag I got at the dollar store this summer. It looked like a fake lands end canvas tote bag.  I actually did several bags and threw in sunscreen, pool toys, etc as birthday gifts.  I'm not good at hooping so I used that spray on stabilzer stuff, 2 layers of stabilizer and pinned the bag to it.
  • and it worked just fine?  I'm only worried because a friend gave this for me to do for his mom as a gift.  Maybe I'll see if the dollar tree has any like it so I can practice.  Thanks!

  • It worked fine. Id be nervous though too if it was a gift. For mine I figured it was just $1 so who cares if it messes up.  I think the spray on stabilzer stuff was a big help.
