Does anyone sell on etsy?

I'm contemplating opening a shop but wondered if its really worth all the hassle. Let me know the dos and don'ts and if its worth it.

Re: Does anyone sell on etsy?

  • With Etsy, you get back what you put into it. I think a lot of people starting out assume they can just snap a picture, list it, and wait for it to sell. It doesn't really work like that though. To be successful, you need to be prepared to invest a fair amount of time- flawless pictures, great tagging and titles and descriptions, studying SEO, making a GREAT product that stands out, and marketing, marketing, marketing. You can not depend on Etsy to do the work for you. You have to be prepared to brand yourself, market yourself, and draw your customers in from outside Etsy.

All this. I didn't have enough time to invest in it 100% like I needed to, so I let my listings lapse, but I did find a niche here where I live, so it wasn't a big loss.

  • What's your category? There is so much competition out there but I think having great photos can really set a seller apart from another one. Also, consider hosting a giveaway once you get your shop it - it's a great way to attract attention to your shop!

  • I say give it a try.  It doesn't cost much to list on etsy.  I have been really lucky to have a reasonably successful etsy shop without much effort and no marketing.  Just list some items and see how it goes.

  • You guys should check out the Knotties and Nesties Etsy team (KNET).  All of the shops are girls who are from the knot, nest and bump and would love some support! There are many of us that came from this board as well.  you can find info about the KNET team here as well as links to all of our shops.
