Photgraphy for dummies
I know there was time many of you wonderful ladies were doing a class or something to learn to use your camera better and were posting once a week. Can someone please share that link with me.
H and I just got the Nikon D3100 and I want to really learn to use it before Christmas (or atleast more than just a basic point and shoot.)

This helped me tremendously when I was learning how to use my camera.
I also bought the book, Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson which I also found helpful.

I third what Kathy said -- the 2peas class and Bryan Peterson's book are fantastic -- and I would add practice, practice, practice. And here's some advice I'm trying really hard to follow myself: try not to compare yourself to others. If anything compare your progress to where you started, but end it there. For me, the process has been (rather, is still) really long and I get really frustrated and impatient a lot, but so far, I've been able to push through those phases and move forward. Just very, very slowly.
Trying to figure out what you're good at, and what you're drawn to also helps with the frustration factor, and it can help when you feel overwhelmed by how much there is to learn (well, it helps me, at least). For example, I think I'm drawn to and have made the most improvement with candid photos of people. I love portraits, but truthfully I suck at them. I'm also seriously interested in close-up/macro, whereas I couldn't care less about wide angle/landscape stuff.
Oh, and it definitely seems that this board is heavily Nikon. I don't have the 3100; I have basically the older version of it, but they're both the entry level Nikons.
My silly Lily is almost 4.
Jealous! And lol@ the Ritz camera girls. I pretty much do all my own research before I go out. I have seen people at my work BS things enough to know that most people really have no idea what they're talking about, especially now since they've hired all kinds of temporary employees. :P
